Hey all...I just got a pontoon boat and was looking for a battery to run my Minn Kota. I was looking for a smaller battery to save weight., but don't want to wish I had a bought a larger size. What do you suggest? How much time do you get out of your batteries and what sizes?
Thank you,

Jack

I'm assuming your pontoon boat is a kickboat, right? A 'regular' sized 12v battery should be plenty. I'd have to check on the specifics but I had an average size battery on my kickboat running a 30# thrust Minnkota and never had any problems but I wouldn't run it continuously, I'd go to a spot and fish the shoreline. It's been about four years since I have used it as I refuse to pay the state more taxes than I already pay. Now I use the oars...

I would also recommend buying your battery at Costco.. They have really good prices and their batteries are usually superior to the ones that you would buy at checker for sometimes twice the cost...

I have a 40 LBS. Thrust MINN KOTA and I have two Stowaway Deep Cycle Marine Batteries 105 AMP hours. One battery usually lasts me at least 6-8 hours for a full day if the wind doesn't get too strong. Whatever you buy make sure it is at leat 100 AMP hours, otherwise it won't have enough juice for that size a motor.

I haven't had any problems with the Stowaways. I charge and maintain them with a ProMariner charger/maintiner, they ought to last a long time. You can buy the ones I have at NAPA autor parts for around $70. I never have a problem returning stuff to NAPA if it doesn't work.
