Went carp fishing on Sunday. I have a favorite place we go. We know if the fish aren't biting anywhere else we can go there and hook into some big carp. I caught 8. 2 of them were babies the other ones were all pretty good size. Got rained on a little but it was still fun.

[cool]Hey, coolfool, those "buglemouth bass" just don't get the respect they deserve. They won't win any beauty contests but they have provided a lot of great action for kids and newbies when the more glamorous species develop lockjaw. Heck, I ain't no newbie, but I still enjoy some good hand to fin combat with a nasty ol carp once in a while. They do stretch your string.

Hardest battle I ever had was a 25# mirror carp (like you caught at Pineview) I hooked on a six weight flyrod in Willard, from my tube. That puppy towed me all over the lake before giving me back my little green crappie fly.

I think I could picture that carp pulling you all over the place tubedude. They do put up a fight.I am just practicing getting the drag right for when I hook into one of those wiper at willard haha. The kids really like fishing for carp as much as I do.A fish is a fish.

You should join the website, I really like it and the guys here are alot of fun to chat with. Yes those oldcarp are fun to catch and they put up a great fight.I can't imagine hooking into one when your in a float tube like tubedude has and I hear there are people who like to catch them on a fly pole, that would be a battle. Sounds like that was a nice fish you got.

At pineview, you can find them basically anywhere there is submerged willows and reeds and definitely at the inlets. It is also fun to be trolling for wipers and snag one in the back. From what I hear, Utah lake is the best place to find the ugly "suckers" but dont know never fished utah lake!!!!

I love catching any kind of fish, I remember as a kid living in S.L.C. I lived within walking distanceof the Jordan River.(the only place to fish) Me and some of my buddies would fish the Jordan all day for those big o'l bastards and we always caught fish!! I think Just because there not "labled" a game fish, some people look down on them. But what kind of angler can ressist a 20pound fish trying to take your pole!![Wink]-TIBBZZ-

It is true TIBBZZ, i love to catch carp because of the fight. So do my kids and grandkids. It is really fun to watch an 8yr old pull in one of those big bad boys, he definetly has a very large grin on his face,

When I was a kid my dad took me to a river in southern New York State to catch some stripers and some white bass. My dad 2 had poles out(1 with live minnow and one with night crawler) and I had one with crawler. I was messing around like kids do. Next thing I know dad was yelling get your pole get your pole. I came running up and slipped in the mud and slid in to water up to my butt. When I got up my dad handed me the pole and I fought this fish for about 10 minutes. I was hoping for a striper but it was a 8 pound carp. 2 minutes later dad had a 4 pound striper. It still is the biggest fish that I ever caught.

I guess it depends on the geographic location of the angler. In europe in case some of you didnt know. The carp is revered as the most coveted fish of all. IN fact in nepal there is the mahseer and 200 to 300 lbs species of carp that are streak silver. Not like a carp though they hit lures and spinners but fight like a carp with nitrous oxide as the fuel. Not that i have caught them just read about them. Interesting the perception of a fish though, just depends on what side of the fence yoru sitting on.

I finally hooked into some of those mirror carp , but foul hooked . Not on purpose . They just got in the way of my jig .LOL I have hooked some big ones on jigs and spinners in there mouth . I enjoy any fish on my line . Great for the kids to catch . tight lines
