We hit Ririe today for a few hours. I wanted to finally catch a southern Idaho bass. The wind was blowing hard enough by the time we got there that the only place that we really could fish was tucked in behind and island. I managed to boat a couple smallies, and some perch. The biggest bass might have gone 12 inches but no more. Does anybody know if there are any nicer fish in there?

Ririe has some fairly large fish in it. It has splake over 10 #s , some nice trout, and in the fall the Kokeanees spawn and go upwars of 4-5 #s.

During the spawn it is nothing like it to catch 30 to 40 fish a day[cool]

In my experience the Ririe smallmouth are 50 to 1 on the smaller side. I have caught a couple in the 16" range. I know of others that have caught bigger ones. I usually fly fish for them so even the smaller ones are fun on a light rod. I like to use small poppers in the morning before the light comes over the canyon wall. Then I switch to size 6-8 leeches. By doing this I usually catch a ton of smallmouth bass and a few cutthroat.

I've never caught any big bass at Ririe, you can catch little ones on almost every cast. Last summer I was diving for crawfish up there alot, and saw some real nice bass. When I would find a small crawfish I would take it up to the surface and let it go and big bass would come from everywhere and go crazy ripping the crawfish up, it was like watching sharks eating a seal or something. So I tried fishing with crawfish to catch some bigger bass and could never get them to bite, I tried rubber crawfish and crawfish lures nothing seemed to work. The biggest bass I saw was about 100 yards straight north of the boat ramp and she was there all summer, always by the same rock pile she was a monster, I would always take a couple of crawfish over to her and watch her devour them it was fun to watch but I couldn't get her to eat anything attached to a line. Another time I talked to some kids who caught a nine pounder said they caught it under a floating dock? They wouldn't tell me what they caught it with but they said they always caught some real big ones but this was the biggest yet. Good luck I know there are some big bass up there let me know if you figure out the trick for the big ones.
