[cool][#0000ff]Okay, our new format is in place, and most of the bugs have been worked out. Before the new website was installed, we were told that there would be automatic picture resizing. That only works for inline pictures...and not always. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If you attach pictures, the system does not resize your pictures for you. It will accept large files because we occasionally need to post videos or orther larger files. BUT...we continually have to remind members that we have a limit of 300 KB files for pictures. Those of us with high speed internet have no problem viewing the larger file pictures, but folks with dialup have to suffer not being able to see them. It takes forever to load a large file picture.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have spent over a half hour this morning on resizing and reposting pictures that were not properly resized or put into the proper posts. Not my favorite way to spend my time...UNPAID.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If we continue to see a large number of large files being posted, we will be forced to do one of two things. 1. Automatically reject any pictures over the size limit. or...2. Moderators will delete oversize pics and members will have to resize them before reposting.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We love pictures. They really add a lot to the reports and help to illustrate points of information. But, we do have to maintain some standards. Posting pictures is a privilege, and is enjoyed by other members. But, do not abuse it.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]On the flip side, we moderators understand that not all members are computer wizards or photo whizzes. We do not want to penalize anybody that simply needs assistance, and we are happy to help when necessary. But, we also recognize the difference between needing help and just being too lazy to properly post your pictures.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If you need help, ask for it. But, in the future, if you continue to post large file pics, after being reminded, your pictures will be edited out if they are beyond the limits.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Sorry, but I have better things to do with my early mornings...especially if I am getting ready to go fishing.[/#0000ff]

If the mods want help, I can resize pictures too! Just send them to vividdawn@gmail.com which I check at least once a day. Or send a PM to tell me it's there, since I check these forums several times a day!

Thank you Vivid......
I was one of the posts that tube dude was pointing fingers towards..
I do need help....to learn how...to resize.....but appreciate your stepping in offering your help.

[cool][#0000ff]If you can't resize your own pics, either leave a note in your post or send one of the mods a PM. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We have also posted free resizing programs several times in the past.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Most computers come with basic photo programs that will allow resizing and they have HELP buttons to help you learn how. Spend some time with them and experiment until you get it down.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]BUT...do not stop fishing and do not stop taking pictures. We will work it out.[/#0000ff]

I gather it's best to resize all of em before posting and not rely on using the in line feature. I think I can live with it now that I think I was successful in my last posting. Sure wish that the forum could do it for us. I don't have the easy program I used to have anymore. Oh well. [

[cool][#0000ff]Someday...but not for now. Your last post and picture were fine. But, let me know if you need help.[/#0000ff]

It is really simple once someone shows you. All of the pics in my BL post were resized in about 1 minute for inline posting. If anyone lives close by me and needs help let me know and i can walk you through it.[cool]
Pat, isn't the auto-resizing tool working for inline pics? I don't know because i do it manually anyway. The trial post i used when the bugs were being worked out did it right but i think we had a problem since then.[shocked]

[cool][#0000ff]Daniel, at BFT HQ in Colorado, has been working hard the past two weeks to get all the edges rounded off. It looks like the auto sizing function for inline pics is working as it should. In other words, you can attach any size picture...and check the inline function...and then go through the steps to make it show inline...and it will display the right size.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]However, it will work faster and better if you resize them first. Otherwise, when you click to put them inline, they show up FULL SIZE...and it is tough to write copy around them. They will show the right size when you click to post, but not in EDIT MODE.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]HERE IS A LINK to the help desk info on posting pictures.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In short, you can post any size pic inline, and it will show up the right size in the post. But, it is better to reduce it if you can.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If you have pictures with a lot of detail...like some scenery shots, they will be bigger and better if you just attach them (not inline) as long as they are not over 300 KB in file size.[/#0000ff]

Resizing images is EASY... Really! Just go download this file, its by microsoft themselves and is safe:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe
Once installed you can simply "Right click" any image and a menu option will now show up to resize the image. You can choose between 3 sizes and the newly resized image will be written out to a unique filename so you dont have to worry about over-writing your source image.
Piece-O-Cake!

[#800000][/#800000]
[#800000]I’ve been resizing pictures almost from day one on BFT. I downloaded the BFT resizer and it works like a charm. Very easy to use.[/#800000]
[#800000][/#800000]
[#800000]As far as help to the newbie’s or the PC challenged folks, have you thought about making a sticky post that will stay at the top forever that will detail the procedures for resizing pictures? If there is a help archive that already does this (detail the procedures), then the sticky here could just link the viewer to that archive.[/#800000]
[#800000][/#800000]
[#800000]As it is now with this post, it will eventually work its way downward until it is buried and forgotten. The stickys don’t do that.[/#800000]
[#800000][/#800000]
[#800000]There may be more to this than I’m aware of (surprise, surprise), but it seems to me that this subject matter should be kept at the top of the forum.[/#800000]

PS: I just took a look at the HELP & ARCHIVE sticky at the top. The picture help is a couple of layers down and is probably missed by a lot of folks. Couldn't the link to it be put on the very first page?
[cool][#0000ff]Thanks for the input. The picture thing is a recurring situation, and it has changed a bit with the new format. Just wanted to throw something up as a reminder and to let the new members know there are some basic standards.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There is a "Help Desk" sticky, that everybody should review periodically. We already have too many stickies. We could have the whole first page as stickies. But, as I have been informed by the lazy folks on the forum..."Nobody looks at the stickies anyway".[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Generally I prefer to send PMs to newbies who post large file pics and offer to help them learn the ropes. My frustration is with the regulars who just throw up the pics off their camera thinking "TubeDude will take care of them.". We mods are always happy to help, where needed, but don't take unfair advantage of us.[/#0000ff]

BFT resizer? Can I down load that on my Mac? Where do I find it?

I have the titles for several free photo resizing software programs that work very well, but they are all for windows.
If you go into your browser (Google) and request "photo resizer for mac", I think that you will find several that are for free, for trial, or for purchase for the OS platform.
