Dad and I went to Henry's for the first time ever. We landed a total of six nice fish. Talking to some other fishermen up there it seems the fishing is slowing down compared to the weeks past, but we still had a lot of fun. We started out trolling and caught a couple of fish on a blue fox, Black bell with silver flecks and a green and silver blade. Nothing else we trolled seemed to work as well as that blue fox. I did get a couple of bites on a kwikfish but couldn't hook them. It seemed all the other boats where anchored up around the cliffs and catching a few fish so we decided to try that. It looked like they were all using marshmallow and worms which I have never used before. We didn't get any bites and after a few minutes the marshmallow would get soggy and float to the top so I tried a pink float and covered it with smelljelly and figured that would do the same job as a marshmallow and wouldn't dissolve and it seemed to work we caught a few fish that way before heading home. The fish are super fat and healthy and fought hard I will definitely be fishing that lake some more.

Learning the holes and how they change from month to month is the biggest factor in figuring out how to fish Henrys. I really do think that flies out fish lures 5 to 1 if you get to know the lake well. (of course Steelfishers wife and the kids who catch the 10 pounders would differ with me). If you have a boat I would try trolling lead core with flies.
I would highly recommend Bill Schiess' book Fishing Henrys lake to learn where the holes are.
Thanks for the report and pics.

We were there last week and man the snow flies were horrible and I mean worst ever early in the week. Weather was strange, either was glass calm or blowing like crazy most of the time. Got chased off the lake early in the morning by high winds both Wed and Thursday which was bizarre. Spawning fish were still hanging out at the State park boat docks and people were trying to fish for them which made it interesting when boats were launching. I was also amazed at the amount of Yellowstone tourists that camped at the State Park.
Better luck next time hopefully!
