I am up visiting my parents and I am planning to take my Mom fishing at Starvation. I went last year and fished a little from shore, but I am taking her on their boat this year and I want to try to have some success for walleye and bass. Anyone have some pointers for me so I can make her day successful? Baits, locations, techniques? We may be able to troll but have no downriggers on the boat. Thanks for the help.

[cool][#0000ff]No need for downriggers or other fancy trolling setups. Just a good sonar and a few diving crankbaits in perch, firetiger or silver/blue metallic. Find some good 10-15 foot water with fish on the sonar and troll around 2 mph. Actually, the walleyes are very active and aggressive right now and will hit on even a faster troll.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The Saleratus Wash area has been the hot producer the last couple of weeks, but I have also had reports of good catches from around the bridge and now up into Rabbit Gulch. It seems that the fish are moving shallow all around the lake, and the key is to find the concentrations and then get the right lure in front of them at the right speed.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]What is really great about the walleye (and smallmouth) in Starvation right now is that you do not have to be a walleye "pro" to catch them. No need for fancy bottom bouncer rigs and crawler harnesses. Just drag a good active lure past them and they smack it. Hit hard and fight good too. Guys who say that walleye don't fight well need to catch a few of these on light tackle. [/#0000ff]
