This video shows politicians talking about oil since 1977 when I was 2 years old.
You would think we would have learned our lessen by now.

Wy they have had 36 years too change to alternative fuels and I could see problems when I was in high school and they still drag there feet on this issue. There is going too be a time when we will have too change. Are they going too what till the oil is all gone or are they going too do something. Over the years many people have can up with solutions but they always buy them out of there new alternatives and ideas. Its time for exploration in new fields of fuel. Our country will be crippled if this does not take place soon. Our economy will be non exsistent if something does not change soon. Man people across the country cannot aford these prices and it cuts into there necessities.

Oil is gone, not if, but when.
Your right, it has been going for 30 years and all that was done in that time frame was make bigger vehicles that got less milage.
Believe it or not, this oil price spike (there is no shortage) is good for us, and the US. There is a price for gas, called the "Incentive price". When we hit that price, we will solve the problem. Not the government, we the citizens will solve the problem. Technology is there.
One good friend of mine is installing a split rear end in his 3500 Ram. It will give him a ratio for normal driving and prarie gears for the highway. Why all cars do not have this is beyond me, it has been in trucks for 50 years.
The real problem is not the politicians, it is you and I. We drive the market, we are the buyers. If we buy big cars and trucks, they make big cars and trucks.
When we start to demand 50 mpg and electric cars that do 40mph and can go 80 miles, we will get them. But not until. With them will come more solar pannels, more small windmills, more big windmills, more hydro electricity, probably some nuke plants, tide force capturing and lots of other "American Ingeniuty" items.
I count more on the garages of Americans than I do anyone else. We are a very resourceful nation, especilly when we are down or in a corner.
Bring back the 50mpg Rabbit diesel.

There is a reason for that wyobraz the oil companies pretty much own the politicians [frown] I hate it and on top of that it is not our fault about the oil prices or the lack of alternative energy when nothing is available to the average people of America how can they choose a alternative- Ethanol gas pumps are rare and electric vehicles are expensive and limited to what they can do. Don't buy into that bs about pointing the finger at ourselves that doesn't fly. We need convenient [/b]alternative fuel options People have had the means and the methods to do so but they where bought out or stopped you know that saying treated like a mushroom that applies here perfectly.

Should read, 'is owned by the government.' They all have their hand in the mix, so why would they push for lower prices? Plus we have a ton oil available to us right in the states. Oil shale right in Utah, and Nevada. Huge oil reserves in Alaska. South Dakota has a huge reserve as well. We need to be less dependant on foreingn il and use what we have available.

We have enormous amounts of oil in our own country.. that's if you don't even count ANWR. Open up ANWR.. and that's it... we're a completely independent Country..
This is a very interesting video.. I've not verified much of the stuff he speaks of.. but it is compelling to say the least

Thanks for the comments everyone! Some of them I agree with and some I don't, but thats life.
I posted this video just to show how our government has been arguing with itself for the last 30years concerning oil, and nothing yet has been done and I would not expect anything to happen anytime soon either.

KokaneeReaper, I know that it is a popular idea to think that the oil companies own the politicians, and to a certain extent I agree but there are a few flaws in that logic.
First, if the oil companies had their way oil would not be $140 dollars a barrel as it is today, especially in an election year. Oil companies would rather have a Republican President vs. a Democrat because of taxes and drilling oportunity, and they would rather have cheap oil right now so oil wasn't an issue during the presidential campaigns.
Second, if oil companies owned our politicians we would already be getting oil from the places that are being argued about today, like ANWR, Offshore, Oil Shale etc. The oil companies have been trying to drill in these places since the last oil crunch in the '70s, and every time the Democrats have either blocked the drilling in Congress or it has been vetoed by Clinton like in 1994 when Congress passed drilling in ANWR.
Here is the voting record for congress concerning domestic oil production since 1975.
ANWR Exploration
Republicans: 91% Supported
Democrats: 86% Opposed
Coal-to-Liquid
Republicans: 97% Supported
Democrats: 78% Opposed
Oil Shale Exploration
Republicans: 90% Supported
Democrats: 86% Opposed
Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Exploration
Republicans: 81% Supported
Democrats: 83% Opposed
Refinery Increased Capacity
Republicans: 97% Supported
Democrats: 96% Opposed
SUMMARY:
91% of Republicans have historically voted to increase the production of American-made oil and gas since 1975.
86% of Democrats have historically voted against increasing the production of American-made oil and gas since 1975.
While the Dems have historically voted against domestic oil production since the '70s our domestic oil production has fell from 9 million barrells a day in 1975 to 5.5 million barrells a day today.

I will agree that the generally speaking the Republicans favor the oil companies but the Democrats favor Extreme Enviromentalism when it comes to energy production. Untill both sides get away from their extreme views we will never get out of this mess we are in.

KokaneeReaper, I know that it is a popular idea to think that the oil companies own the politicians, and to a certain extent I agree but there are a few flaws in that logic.
Ya your right there are few flaws in that mind set but my main point of view is that oil companies have such a strong standing with government officials that it does not surprise me we are in this situation. There have been few speak up about alternatives to oil in the past well not much has came from it as you also know I have herd allot of talk come from democrats and republicans and have seen very little action on either side. Everyone is sick of hearing them TALK about it and we would like to actually see something accomplished for a change.Honestly I don't think the oil companies really care right now who gets into office this election they have us over a barrel pun intended [

] I think the extreme right and left view held by democrats and republicans in office right now is smoke and mirror treatment to confuse the American people I just can not understand how you can have that many well educated people with the power to make changes in our country for the better to not be able to sit down and come up with some serious solutions to the problems we face as a country I mean come on this party that party and ego trips it sounds like High School BS
Basically we should have convenient alternative energy by now they saw what was coming in the 70's

Alright.. here's the thing though... I don't always favor with the republicans... BUT on this instance.. why is it extreme to agree in the 90th percentile that there is not a better option than to use OUR OWN OIL!?
If you have in your basement enough wheat to last your family 200 years.. why would you go and buy wheat from your neighbor that costs 2-300 times more than what yours in your basement costs! It makes no sense.. but the politicians that oppose it.. would rather go and "Buy from the neighbor " seemingly having no intent at all to use their own.
Like the video you referrenced earlier.. we have actually SLOWED DOWN our production of oil... and become more dependant on foreign oil.. WHEN WE HAVE ALL WE NEED!
I have a slew of grubs in my basement that I got for a good deal.. they normally sell for $6 per pack of 20.. I got them for .88 cents... Now.. Why in the world would I ever go buy more from the store for $6 when I got all I need down in my tackle room! It makes no sense.. I don't think that there would ever be anyone that you would meet ANYWHERE that would go and buy more at a price much higher than you originally paid.. and you have more than you'll ever use.. it's just plain DUMB..
However, these politicians look at us straight face and say.. "It's stupid to use that oil!.. We need to buy it from here!.. So they say that it's pollution that it will cause from the drilling process.. Very lame! you honestly think that the other country you are buying it from is going to have a Higher "world environmental awareness" than all the stinking red tape that "America" has? NOT A CHANCE.. they're just going to think.. "The americans will give me how much for this barrell?! Get it out of here!
We even threaten to start our own drilling.. the price should drop
