Me and some other people are trying to start a chapter in Utah and Wyoming it is a nonprofit org. that works directly with fish and game to enhance the kokanee fisheries in each state through tournaments and volunteer work we hope to be able to protect the Kokanee waters we already have and possibly add a few more in the future. It is important to know that Kokanee Power also helps other species of fish not just kokanee. I would like to see how many BFT members are interested in being involved with this please let me know
Thanks

I would be interested, it would be great to add new kokanee waters to the state, if that is possible. Any thoughts on what lakes might be on a list to add them to? WH2

I don't believe the dwr has any on the list right now there main concern is Flaming gorge and Strawberry once they have a hatchery that can support the demand for each lake I believe we will start seeing more utah waters with kokanee available. To bad Willard isn't about 90ft deeper could you imagine catching Wipers, Walleys and Kokanee in the same lake [sly] now that would make for some nice pics lol.

[#000000]I would support such an organization with donations and such but couldn't be a part of it. [/#000000]

[#000000]Speaking of the kokanee at Flaming Gorge, what I think would help more is to teach and persuade more anglers to catch as many burbot out of there as possible. I have already heard a couple of reports from a couple of biologists who have described balls of burbot attacking and eating up egg beds of the kokanee where they spawn at the Gorge. Every burbot killed helps. For everyone, probably thousands of kokanee are potentially saved. [/#000000]

[#000000]I seriously doubt the DWR will have anymore additional "kokanee hatchery power" than it does now, even with alot more support from an outside group. [/#000000]
[#000000][/#000000]
[#000000]I think I read something a while back explaining the petential of more kokanee lakes in Utah. From what I remeber, the only good ones are what we have right now. I believe they have tried to put kokanee in other places but it didn't work. Don't know for sure though. [/#000000]

[#000000]I would definitely support your group though. Especially if it focuses more on fundraising and burbot killing since I think that will help the kokanee situation the most. [/#000000]

Count me in. It would be good to see the possibilities of a few other Kokanee waters around. It's at least worth a try to see what other intrest may be lurking out there to expand more fisheries.

Another thought is what we do we need to do in order to improve the quality of the waters and fisheries we now have. (Something to think about). [Wink]

all for it. the burbot are wiping out the inlake spawn. i know guys thet were jigging off the cliff last yr that hooked burbot. told me when then came to the net. they were burping out huge mouth fulls of eggs. this is not good for most of the kokes in the gorge the 3 biggest runs are inlake not up tribs. but a bigger potentail dissater is the muscles !!! if they get in none of our grand kids will be able to enjoy it. it would be a great walleye lake.

Just a heads up I spoke with Mike Stone Chief of fisheries in Wyoming and Rob Keith the Wyoming regional supervisor for Flaming Gorge and Fontenelle area they both spoke to me about the bubbot problem they are faceing and we are looking at ways to help decrease the numbers of burbot in the gorge as a group KP will hopefully be able to do some good through tournaments and volunteer work
