Put boat in water around 7 am this morning, Pelican bay/point. Fished all over the left side of shore from boat... I was fishing the reeds for bass and kept getting cats on 6" yamamoto twin tail grub. see pic

could not believe it I was catching a catfish on that worm rigged texas style... oh well.. I continued fishing and started catching more and more catfish... I ended up catching 1 LMB, 1 White bass & about 9 cats. I let some go. kept 6 kitties, the rest are swimming again.... biggest catfish was 25" and 6lbs..

[cool][#0000ff]Those kitties pull hard, don't they? No big surprise on the lures. The cats are in the shoreline structure doing the same thing the bass are doing...hunting crawdads and other fodder. Some are still spawning and are feeding actively even while setting up housekeeping.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The cats are good eating. Fillet them and cut out the strip of red meat along the sides and discard the last two inches of the tail of the fillet. There is a higher proportion of the dark flesh to light flesh ration and the lower part does not taste as good.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Cross cut the fillets into half inch wide strips and cook them thoroughly. Catfish is a dense flesh and takes more cooking than some of the white meat fishes. Almost impossible to overcook them.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]enjoy.[/#0000ff]

thanks for the info... I will do just that... thanks again....
At first I couldn't figure out what I had on.. Pulled real hard and stayed down. With that bigger one it just didn't move at first. I thought I was stuck... then it started moving and ran under the boat.... yes they fight good... A couple of throws must have landed on their heads because before I could reel in the slack they were already on... It was fun...
thanks for the tip, I left the red meat and end of tail... Gonna cut that stuff out now....

I got on a pretty good catfish bite last year on Utah Lake while I was fishing for bass. However, they were eating pretty much any bass bait I threw in the water. I caught them on lipless cranks, jigs, grubs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, senkos, crawdads, and even one on a buzzbait! Must've caught 15 or so within about an hour and a half and they were all over 4lbs. Biggest one was about 8lbs caught on the chatterbait. Crazy stuff...

Saratoga springs looks awful back in there.. The little marina there stinks like sewer and the water looks like it also... I was in and out of there quick this morning with no bass... Started running back toward pelican bay and stopped alot and fished the reeds..... that's where i caught all my stuff.......
