[#002850]I'm a little late posting this report. Since it's just another cookie-cutter Strawberry report, I wasn't going to post but since I have a question for you all, I decided to go ahead and bore you all.

Bait_Caster and I decided to fish the Berry on Friday. We arrived at the marina at about 5:45 AM to a frosty 37 degrees outside with frost on the boat's windshield.

We launched and fished a few spots a mile or so north of the marina. BC caught 6 fish long casting his white tube jig tipped with chub. I only caught one that way and the rest of our fish, in that hole, came in on the vertical jig. We each landed about 9-10 fish before it dried up.

After the bite in that area dried up, we tried a few spots in the Ladders with no luck at all. So we decided to try a bay over on the south end of the lake. About 2:00, the bite started again. There in that bay we did pretty good too landing another 8-9 fish each.

By the end of the day we had landed 36 fish between the two of us. Not stellar but still great.

I used a glow tube all day long and BC used a pearl white/pink one all day. Didn't seem to make much difference which color we used.

Now, for the question: Since BC did well long casting and retrieving his tube jig, do you think a curly-tail grub would work even better? I can't help but think that the grub's tail would be a bit more attractive than a tube jig being pulled straight through the water. I wish I would have thought about it while I was up there. Guess I will just have to go back and give it a try.[/#002850]

Sounds like a great day on the pond Ralph, thanks for the report. I have no idea about your jig question but I agree, it is worth a try, it sure couldn't hurt[Wink].

I target rainbows mostly up there and curly tails are great . I prefer not to bait fish up there . So I fish a lot with out bait on my jigs . I do best for bows without bait and curly tails work great when fish are close to the surface . If deep I get better results with tube jigs . Then again I try not to bait my jigs . I always considered it cheating , but I use to just fly fish too . Don't get me wrong , I will put bait on but after I try without first .

[#000000]I will tell you what produces better for me, and of course it does not mean that that is really better. On all the lakes that I have fished what has seen the most bites are 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inch tube jigs. This is for surface fishing, deeper down, and bottom. Also for overcast days, sunny days, ice fishing, and everything. [/#000000]

I could probably count the number of trout I have caught on curly-tails on both of my hands. What I have seen is that it is important to not scent the skirts on the tube jigs too much and let them mover freely.

I have caught some vertical jiging when I didn't have the right color tubes,They do work.
Next time up I'm going to try the 3" manic minow and see how they work casting them. There are thousands of minows in the lake right now I 'll PM you my results.
when you heading back up?

[#000000]I think you intended to reply to Old_Coot my friend. When you want to reply to someone specifically you have to click on their reply link. In this case Old_Coot, not the last post on the subject. That way they will know if they have a reply and will not have to keep lookin back at the post.
