Interesting video. But I think that levels will drop back off if there isn't some good protection provided for them in the near future. If they keep the water level out of the rocks for another year, you will see a major decrease in the numbers again. I'm not sure why that would be such a surprising fact to the DNR guys.

Pretty neat video. I always wondered how many shad were in there. From the size of the circle and the amount that were in there I'd say there are a few. The population seems to be doing good and it's nice to see that the dwr is keeping things in check.
TKB, I'm no Willard expert and have no idea on how to manage a shad population but we probably both know that if the low water does become a problem for the shad that the predators will be affected. The dwr won't act right away, red tape and all the b$, and they will rely on the shad to quickly reproduce with the 'new' high water from the repaired dikes. Shad can get their funk on and make babies like no other but if construction delays happen (politics mostly) and the low water continues it will probably be too late to recover the already healthy population of predators on the shad.
Just my two cents, take it or leave it, you can accept it but you don't have to agree with it. I'm not trying to stir the pot but I would like to know what others think about the Willard Bay shad population. Tell us what you think, this is your forum, don't just read this and move on, let's hear your opinion. *please don't reply to others in a negative manner, I would really like to know your opinions on the shad and how the dwr is regulating the population*
Sorry Ralph, I didn't mean to hijack your post....[blush]

The water levels have been lower than they are now and the shad survived just fine and that has been in the last five years. In my opinion the shad will not be effected unless the water drops below the levels of the last two years. I was really expecting the numbers of walleye and shad to be down this year but this video confirms the shad are doing fine and eye catching is the best it has been for as long as I can remember. WH2

Neat video, I like the one that shows Willard and the girl that caught 2 fish on one cast, then her dad lost one of te fish, you can see the two fish on te camera.
it is nice to see the shad, and the fish doing well.
