Friday, pre-fish. Fishing was tough with the wind blowing. Couldn't really find any groups of fish, one here, one there with only a few over 12". Decided to fish in Indian Bay on Saturday morning. Water temps were around 69*, fish seemed to be on secondary points. I tried some cranks which produced more walleye than bass, soft plastics worked the best.
Saturday, day one. Hauled butt over to Indian Bay, the non-boater I drew out was the same guy I pre-fished with so we had a game plan atleast. Caught a couple keepers in Indian Bay but mostly dinks. I missed one on a topwater and threw out a senko to catch it, so I stuck with senkos and grubs. Ended up catching my limit of fish in Saleratus going 13-16". It was a paper tournament so no weights were taken. I ended up in first place on day one with big fish and a 27 point lead. [] My non-boater came in fourth with 89 points. He had his fifth fish in the boat about a half hour before 'weigh in' and it was gut hooked, he quickly got the hook out and threw it back in the water thinking more about the survival of the bass than his score [crazy]. I said "that had to be over 12 inches" and his jaw dropped when he realized what he had just done. Oh well, you only do that once.
Sunday, day two. The highest boater goes with lowest scoring non-boater the next day. I went with a newbie who I had fished with three times this year, he has really learned alot about bass fishing. I went to the point in Saleratus where I caught my big fish and had my limit by 10 AM. George had three but needed two more. I was headed toward Indian Bay when I took a hard right into the cove behind the "marina wall". Caught a few fish there (nothing on Friday) and then stuck a FAT 16" smallie to cull one of my 12"ers. Fished around the point and picked up a couple more dinks. I wanted to go to Indian Bay but George wanted to head down the cliff because he saw some boulders, no prob, it's on the way. I started putting down the cliff but quickly put it up on plane when there was nothin but a 60' drop off. Looked to my right and there was a small cove so we decided to fish it. It was definately not bass territory but fishing was tough so we gave it a shot. About three or four casts in to the rocks over 35' of water George hooked a 15"er...decided to work a little slower. I culled two more fish and George caught his limit with a kicker at 16". We worked the cove and headed towards the boulders that he saw but picked up nothing along the way. Way too steep to be holding many bass. Went back to the little cove and ended up catching some more bigguns.
We ended up tying for big fish on day two. I had a total of 225 with 103 on day two and took first place by 12 points. George went from last place to fourth place with his limit of nice fish. He scored more than I did that day, he's really picking up on bass fishing. My friend, day one non-boater, didn't catch one keeper on Sunday. He was in Indian Bay most of the day, glad I never made it over there.
In general fishing is pretty good, lots of 11-113/4" bass and some real chunky walleye. Caught a few perch as well, we fished some rocks where a guy was fishing for perch and every couple minutes he was pulling in 10-12" perch. There were alot of walleyes caught on senkos, I thought that was strange. Wind on Friday, hardly anything the next two days. My fingers are tired now [crazy], sorry for the novel.
