[:/]400 miles from the gorge is way to many. That has to be one of the best fisheries around for big rainbows, macks and kokes.A few days of fishing I got tired of just catching fish so the next day I wanted to try to catch 5 kokes,5 Rainbow and 5 macks before noon. I started fishing at 5:30am by 6:30 had 5 kokes (caught and released),by7:45 I had 7 Rainbows (C&R)so I had lots of time catch my macks but I only caught 2 macks and I also caught 3 Burbots (Ling)so I counted them. I had caught one a few day before and guy cooked it up,he called it pore mans lobster. The name fits. It is really good.I caught those Burbott in 65'-110' of water jigging a tube with sucker meat. I lost 4 more that morning.
Kokes and Rainbows average 3lbs, a couple 4lbs+ fish were caught every day. Fished a 4/0 dodger with a small spoon down about 30'-50' in deep water(70'-110') caught big kokes (3-4lbs) all morning long. I averaged 5 fish an hour with 2 rods every morning. I would take the dodger off and fish 10'-20' of water using the downrigger to keep the small lure 5' off the bottom to hammer the Rainbows.
[pirate] The big Macks stayed away from me again or I stayed away from them (more likely). Maybe Im just saving my luck for that 50lber. Aint we all. Maybe next year. Can't find my pic's on the computer so I may so them later.

That's a great report. I just got back from the Gorge and my Kokes were an average of two pounds, I only caught one 4 pounder. We were fishing out of Cedar Springs. Where were you?

I was fishing out of Buckboard. The first day they were just out of the marina catching big ones but every day it seemed like the schools of bigger fish moved south. I caught a 4lb'er as far south as Squaw Hollow. I was talking to guys at the dock and asked them why they rented a slip Buckboard and not farther south and they all told me there was bigger kokes at that end of the lake. I wish I had some of the pics of the bigger ones.

Did you catch any Lakers or Rainbows down there. Those guys also if I wanted to catch big Lakers go to Anvil and fish south for really big lakers. Don't know if that is true or not but the guy did have some nice pics of a 42 lb'er that he caught trolling with steel this spring. I've read that that can cause fights.

If I lived any closer to the Gorge I would be there every weekend and wouldn't get anything else done. Just got back from there. We launched out of Lucerne and found the lake trout fishing to be very tough. I jigged up one good fish of 29 lbs, a 20 lb, and a few pups from 6 - 12 lbs, but only 9 total fish in 4 days of chasing them. The one day we fished for kokanee we did very well, though, with fish up ro 3 lb and just shy of 20" long. It was fun. Weather was great. Big lake trout were stacked everywhere, but had a bad case of lockjaw.

Ya I might live under the bridge and just work for food and gas money for the boat if I lived any closer. Did the big ones hang out in around 100'+ of water. When I was there it seemed like I marked a lot of fish at 60' but I only caught 4 lb'ers. I was told to fish south of Anvil if I wanted to catch bigger lakers. Do you think that is true.
Have you ever caught a Burbot (spelling) jigging the Gorge.

There are lots of big fish south of Anvil now. Most are between 75 and 105 feet down, but we marked fish a little deeper and a little shallower. I've still never caught a burbot there.

I caught 4 burbot and had 4 get off while fishing with tubes n sucker meat In a 65'-100' of water. It was fun and good eating but it wasnt no 29lb laker. Maybe some day.
