well me and tommy finley got over to Yuba to do some pike fishing..

we startes at panted rock launched to boat at about 7:30 no other trucks in the parking area.. we did not even see any other boats on the lake... cool we had the place to our self's.. well for a little while any way.

we started out trolling. tommy put a shad rap on and i put a j 13 fire tiger on and put it right in the prop wash and a shad rap on the other pole.. we troll for about a 1/2 hour when i seen a big black long looking something come up right where my lure was running in the wash.. well about this time my motor starts spudering and dies.. i watch as the big fish just dissapers back in the deepths.. man what a bummer...

well we trolled all around to the dam. with 6 or 7 perch and some good hit's that did not stick.. finly tommy of course hit the first pike right off the last point by the dam. ok well it was only about 21" 2 lbs or so.. so we troll around awhile longer no luck..

tommy said well let's try for some perch. so i said ok we will try that point back there were we seen a bunch of perch stacked up when we were trolling..
so we got put the jig's on and played with the perch for a while.. it was not as good fishing as i hoped so we moved over to the island in the nearows.. most the time it is realy good perch fishing there.. got there seen a bunch of perch on the finder so set up on them.. we cought about 10 each then like a switch they turned off.. gone.. i was thinking a pike must have chaced tham out so we casted some bigger jig's around but not-a.. so moved around the point to the other spot.. we hit perch for about the next 2 hours or so.. then tommy said ok i'm tired of catching perch.. lol so i thought we would just troll back to painted rock and load the boat and go.. so we started on our way i just put the poll's out and trolling along when i look back and see my poll just bend in half so i jump up tell tommy to drive the boat.. thinking i was snaged again (was happening all day) i grabed the poll and did the one thing one should never do when useing a bait casting reel! i put my thumb on the spool and reaired back on it!
what happened next was unbeliveable!!
i looked back to see what i can only describe as a missel being shot out of a sub! going a full 5 to 6 feet out of the water did two flips and land with a big splash.. then 2 more rainbow jumps of about 3 to 4 feet out of the water and it was on.. tommy the trooper he is cleered the other poles as fast as he could and grabed the camera to video the last part of the fight.. he was so excited his leg's were shaking..lol i think i was excited as well it was a nice fish.. biggest pike i have ever layed into.. well after that we had to troll the reat of the day to try and get 2.. but was not to be.. ended the day on that note.. not a bad note to leve it at tho..

it's funny how 1 fish can make a ok day of fishing into a trip to rember!! [sly]

That is a nice fish there Ron. I was talking with someone Sunday that said he would like to see one of these 'big pike' that come from Yuba. I think I'll send him this link. I doubt there will be anymore disbelief. Nice your boy could get one too.

hey kent you got plenty of time them pike will be even more active in the fall than they are now! but i must say they are hitting good right now if ya want to get a big one ya got to put the time in! we trolled for about 8 hours yesterday for 2 pike..

oh and be prepared to lose some lures along the way.. lol yuba eat's lures like candy.

no i have not had much luck on walleye for a while there.. i realy dont think there is that many in there to tell ya the truth! [shocked].. years ago we would troll just like me and tommy were yesterday and catch them all day long.. big ones to.. but that was the good old day's. [crazy]

i rather a 36 1/2 inch pike over a 2 or 3 lb eye any day tho! pike fight sooooooooooooo much better than eye's do.. [sly]

I agree, they fight better. I think they over rate it to get them out of there.

You finally beat Tommy with the big fish!! They were really active last saturday i love the way they fight .They are one fish when hooked.I caught mine shallow how deep was your lure running?

you know tommy is the best good luck fishing buddy i have ever had! every time i take him fishing it's a great trip even if the fishing not so good! he is a real trooper..

and the truth be said he did have someting on earyer in the day that could have been a big pike but we did not even get to the pole befor it pop the hook.. might have been a snaged carp we will never know.. he was happy at the end of the day and said it was the best fishing trip ever so i'm guessing he had fun! [sly]..

we was running anywhere from 10 to 20 feet deep makeing sure to do the snag drag every now and then just to keep me on my toe's.. lol

dude that thing got midevil on my shad rap man.. i looked at it today and counted 9 holes punched throught it 5 slash's that are at lest 1/16 deep crushed the one side of it about a 1/8" and bent both hooks..

that was a powerfull fish!!

I know what you mean about having a great fishing buddy.My son last ice season started to really want to hang out with his dad.He has really gotten into fishing since last year. And he always outfishes me . [:p] He did not go with me last saturday when me and the wife got into those pike becasue he was at his cousins for a week but he is making me take him there this weekend.Wish i di not have to go with all the boaters but they have been behaving at yuba . I need to do some trolling maybe i can get one those bigguns you caught.

Were you using steel leader or mono?

steel all the way.. if i would not of had cable leader on i would have never got that one in.. the lure was sideway's in it's mouth and the steel was frayed so bad i had to change it before i could fish any more..

i know what ya mean my friend.. i cought the pike fever in the early 80's at the hay day's of redmond.. at that time i wished that all the lakes here in utah had pike.. lol young and not so smart..[:p]

there is nothing like a big pike or musky hamering your lure! when they hit something they hit it trying to kill it . veary savage and powerfull fish.. you got to love them!

you know there is only 2 ways to cure pike fever! one involves water and sometimes a boat.. the other a undertaker [crazy]..
