Construction should commence next week and be completed late summer/fall of 2009.

Water in the reservoir should be 3 to 4 feet higher in 2009 than it was in 2008, and allowed to fill as normal in 2010 if everything goes as planned.

Can someone explain to me why the fishing will improve when the dike is fixed? I just started fishing Willard this year and would think that the less water there is, the easier it is to find where the fish are hanging out. Unless of course the water is so low that the fish are dying. Also, when the water goes up won't there be 50 times more wakeboard boats out there?

The fish get more predictable I think is the right word, they will hug the dike more because the minnow, shad, etc will have some where to hide, also all the new vegetation around the edges will help them hide, more oxygen means a wiper will expend the energy to chase a bait, the water should be a little cooler, there are so many things that make it better,I could go on all day.[Wink]And the wipers are on the small side, they need the room to grow and get big,4 years ago it was nothing to go out and catch a 20" to 23" wiper and they had allot more fight to them. You will see!It will be better fishing for all the species, except maybe the catfish?

Low water at Willard generally results in turbidity any time the wind blows. Wave action on the exposed banks releases a lot of sediment into the water. With higher water, the waves crash against the dike. Wipers and walleyes are primarily sight feeders. So, with clearer water, the fishing should be better. Spawning areas around the dike are another factor that high water benefits. With high water, we'll have to put up with the increased power squadron, but it will be worth it.
