I was finally able to get out and chase some bones. It was awesome. FIshing a shallow marsh that wasn't any deeper then 8-12 inches and these bad boys were stacked. Landed this hog on a olive estaz bugger.

DANG BOY! You sure did get Carpage.....Right on! Are you a Carpaholic too?

Oh did I mention that Everey14 is only 3 feet tall[laugh][laugh][laugh]

I just got a really nice seven weight to fish for them they are way too much to handle on a smaller rod. I generally use 1x to 3x on them, but I don't like using tippet I have broken off SO many fish at the tippet knot.

Joni, we gotta hit Utah lake or something or you could show me the Jordan river!

Right you are! Or American Falls.
I will be in IF this weekend so go catch me another Carp.
By the way, it is official, we are booked at Red Rock for August 30th thru Sept 5th.

Alright, I'm looking forward to september!

Joni you may already use this but have you tried using a bonefish taper saltwater fly line for carp? I read in my carp on the fly book about and and have been very pleased with how it performs. It is a lot stiffer line and it seems to cast much better then regular floating line, not to mention in does not seem to spook the fish as much.

That's a big carp, but I can't believe you touch those things. How did the hands smell?

My trip to Idaho turned out to be more a visit then fishing.
However, Friday night, I went CRAWDAD fishing......WOHOO! what a drag.
Saturday we went to the river to where I saw several LARGE carp rizing to food. I am almost drooling!
Got my choice of flies tied on and made my first cast, it which a nice bounce and indicator floating back upstream thing happened. Not quite ready for that first one, but now know what to expect.
Got ready to make my next cast, when my nephew from across the river said "WE GOTTA GO>>>>NOW!"
I looked over at him and he turned around. I saw the emergency from 50 yards away, so I grabbed my gear and ran over to him.

It appears, someone dumped a box of these WAY oversized hooks on the ground and although my nephew picked several up off the ground, he missed this one stuck to the rock he sat on.

That was it for my fishing this weekend.

i sure as hell hope you didn't throw that ugly thing back in the water.

It doesn't matter at all one way or the other. Carp are the only thing in there and removing one fish will do absolutely nothing.

I am sorry you didn't get to so much fishing Joni, thats a bummer.

Saw carpage and thought I might share a little of my own.[inline 0623081406.jpg]

right, and help destroy habitat for other fish, plant life and animals? you should do a little research about carp and just how destructive and useless they are.

I am no biologist but apparently you are.
If you post this to put the hurt on, so be it. I think we are all aware of what NATURE can do if us HUMANS don't step in to correct it.

As far as the CARP I catch and the ones that EVERET mentioned, that is ALL that lives in the waters we are fishing.
Oh there are Crappie and White Bass in the river I fish, but they seem to do fine with the Carp.
I also realize there are some waters that do suffer from these and chub...but mostly because they are over harvested for the IDEAL fish, which lets the less IDEAL fish run amuck.

HARVESTING, is something that needs to be practiced in ALL things.

But I have also been to waters that I care not go to again, because of the STENCH from rotting carp....this is better how?

Golf Courses, City rivers, some ponds, Carp is the species and the only species for that reason.

But keep in mind, Carp were introduced to the US as a food source, and mostly bottom feeders.
TOO MUCH of any one fish can change it forever...can we talk about my favorite TROUT lake for years till someone thought Perch and bluegill needed to be in there.
How about Flaming Gorge and the Lakers.
