The Hilton Hawaiian Village hotel in Waikiki has a beautiful collection of waterfalls and fish ponds. Exotic tropical fish in a rainbow of colors can be seen in the clear shallow water. Here in lies the problem.... there are way to many little fish in the ponds.

The hotel, with a special permit from the state, and working closely with the Hawaii Freshwater Fishing Association..... is stocking peacock bass in their fish ponds. Peacock bass feed almost exclusively on smaller fish so they are hoping to thin out the ponds population.

HFFA club members had great fun catching the peacock bass and transporting them to the HHV fish ponds. Bass fishermen among the guests at the hotel seemed to enjoy the show. "I didn't know they had peacock bass in Hawaii." The peacock bass seem to be enjoying their Waikiki vacation.

Several months ago I was at the Wahiawa reservoir. It is also known as Lake Wilson. It is on the Island of Oahu and not too far from Waikiki.

We were catching Peacock Bass right and left. They are tons of fun on light spinning gear and more fun on a fly rod.[cool]

Waikiki has changed a "little" since yu were here last.....[laugh]

There is a large waterfall right at the beach on the Diamond Head side of the Rainbow Tower... Waterfalls and pools go toward the mountain all the way to the Tapa Tower. They have walk ways and bridges. There are also lots of ducks and water birds. It's like a garden with a stream running through it. The little waterfalls connect the pools.

Even the Peacock Bass are relatively new. They have only been there for about 5 or 6 years now.[cool]

[#008000][Image: happy.gif]Thanks for the feedback. The last time that I was there they were doing some remodeling but it was hard to tell what would be the end results. But then again they were always doing work in & outside of the hotel.[/#008000]

[#008000][Image: happy.gif]Now is a peacock bass a cross between a peacock and a bass? [Image: bobwink.gif]BTW had played the Makaha golf course several times and always got blown away when those dam birds would screech like hell when I was trying to putt. Or worse yet when I was in my back swing. [Image: scaredworried.gif] Too bad that I wasn't into tying then for I would have hussled up some PC herl.[Image: bobwink.gif][/#008000]
