My wife had a family reunion in Minersville this weekend. My grandson and I were able to slip in a little fishing between other events. Friday--my wife wanted to drive up into the mountains east of Beaver. She said that her dad used to have a cabin up there, though she didn't know where. We fished Kent's Lake for a couple of hours. It was pretty slow. Even though a lot of fish were rising we only managed to catch 2 and one of those was caught by snagging the 30 yards of line the fish was dragging around.

Saturday morning--Started early at Minersville Res. We fished off the dam. There were a lot of chubs feeding along the shoreline. I did catch one but the flies that I was using were a little big for the chubs. We also caught 11 rainbows. We didn't measure them but I would estimate that they were between 18 and 24 inches. My grandson weighed the biggest two They went 2#-7oz and 2#-3oz. The rest were all really skinny. They looked like snakes.

Saturday evening--The wind was really blowing and the shoreline was pretty muddy. We caught one rainbow and one small smallmouth.

Sunday morning--A lot of big fish rising but they were not in the mood to bite. We caught 2 rainbows, a chub, and a smallmouth. .

Sounds like you got out there enough this weekend to keep it interesting, thanks for sharing. Were there a lot of folks fishing the Minersville? WH2

No, a couple of other people on the bank and maybe three boats.

Hey sounds like a good trip better than my last outing there. Ive noticed the chubs are pretty bad there right now. If you dont mind telling what flies were you using to catch the smallmouth?[cool][Smile]

We were fishing off the dam and made a lot of casts parallel to the shore hoping to pick up a few smallmouth. The two smallmouth were both caught on a brown beadhead nymph. One came from the north end of the dam and the other actually came out of the river. It came from the small pool at the base of the dam.
