Kingfish is the main targeted spieces this month for anglers fishing out of Boynton Beach, Florida. Here, Colette Smith of San Diego, Califorina caught her first fish, ever, within minutes of receiving instructions on how to use the tackle aboard the Lady K out of Lantana, Florida. The 20 pound fish fought Mrs. Smith for ten minutes and was caught on the boats standard knocker rig.
The morning and evening trips have been producing the largest numbers of fish caught and depending upon water clairity, the use use of a short wire shock leader will either help or hinder your success.
Mutton snapper and yellow-tail snapper have been very steady catches for those fishing dead sardines on the bottom or fishing with squid tipped jigs while drifting over the reef lines here in Boynton Beach. The use of flourocarbon leaders is a must for the best success. We have been taking Mutton snapper up to 18 pounds this month and the yellow-tail snapper have been averaging around 2 - 3 pounds with a few big "flags" in the five pound class.
We are also in the height of shark and barracuda season here in SE Florida, with the toothy critters sneaking in to rob an unlucky angler's snapper or kingfish. When we tell you to reel fast, real fast - we mean it. Also this month we have been taking some African Pompano while drifting over some of the local ship-wrecks and ledges.
The cobia run has slowed down and only a few stragglers remain over the wrecks, willing to eat a sardine or butterflied blue runner on a dropper rig. Please check out our website at [#ff0000]barjackfishing.com[/#ff0000][#000000], for more photos and information about us. Should be visiting Florida, feel free to contact us about private charters or just join in on the a great social fishing experince. Fishing is some of the best quality time a family can have and our goal is to see that everyone has a great time relaxing under the Florida sun.[/#000000]
fair winds and good fishing.
