I'm thinking of going to Walter's Ferry bass fishing and was wondering if anyone has boated there. I know the snake can get extremely shallow in spots. I'm taking a 14 foot aluminum boat with a 15 hp motor.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Should I go upstream or downstream from the boat ramp for the best water?

Thanks,

Many years ago, a friend and I went there with his 14-footer. It worked fine for the most part, but you have to watch for rocks near the bank. The river flow also makes a difference. Low water increases the risk obviously. We went upstream and drifted back down. At the time, we caught mostly catfish and crappie, with a couple of bass.

Thanks RD!

We actually went down there Sunday and caught quite a few small bass. Explored downstream as well as above the bridge a ways. We took it slow and just stayed in the channel and had no problems. LIke you, we let the current drift us along on the way back. It was an adventure!

Lots of grass and moss in the water this time of year though. Next year we'll go a little earlier in the season. Also, I'll be taking my bow next time as we saw quite a few carp as well.
