Hey all-

I'm curious about techniques for big smallmouth bass. I've heard "bigger bait = bigger fish", but I'm not sure.

If you had one day to catch one big fish, and you didn't care about catching a lot of fish, how would you do it?

For Jordanelle, my guesses are BIG perch or rainbow swimbaits.

Lake X Tackle swimbaits, it's been proven to produce (almost [Wink]) state record smallies. Here is a pic to prove it. I don't know this guy but I have this pic saved on my pc, he is my hero [crazy]. He is a member here on BFT, hopefully he will chime in...from what I've heard he has put more than just one day in on catching big fish. On the other hand, all you have to do is be in the right place at the right time.

I love the colors in that fish, it a beautiful.

BIG topwater 7-8" and a 5"+ plastic swimbait. Exposed treble hooks on both, otherwise they wont hook up. Colors are simple; pearl white, white, grey/white. The last 18 fishing hours have resulted in ZERO fish landed.

Nate-Dawg ...

All bass over 3 pounds will hit an 8" topwater lure if conditions are right.

Rod's baits are nice and you can vegas your odds of catching a monster. I have caught several toads this year using Reaction Strike's "Bass Harasser" and Black Dog Bait's "Lunker Punker." I had a monster 9+ sub on at East Canyon using an 8" harasser. She came off right at the boat. The most fun has been using the Lunker Punker which is an 8" sammy type surface lure. I have caught 30+ fish using this monster bait! You need to pick up a swimbait rod. They are much bigger than a typical bass rod.

I will be throwing it at the qualifier this next weekend on the Gorge.

[#0000ff]I find that extremely hard to believe[/#0000ff].[frown]

Being at the right spot when they want to feed means more then what bait you use, then its how you use the bait, next is what bait you are using or color...

And smaller baits work better then bigger ones...Why cause you can zero in on what size and color and how they want the lure worked...

Pretty hard to convince Utah anglers to drop $50-60 bones on a Plunker or Shellcracker. I have both and love them.

Hey ... I am a fisherman. They always get smaller when you can lift them in to the boat. [laugh]

Seriously, it was a monster smallie! Not sure how much it weighed but with the amount of smallies I have caught, I would say that it was a GIANT. It made me drop to my knees and cry when it shook it's head and swam off with my harasser.

When was this???

Seriously, a 9#er in EC? Wouldn't that be a new state record by a good stretch? You know as well as i what it takes to make a fish that big.[Wink] Anything is possible, but 9#'s??[angelic]

Your better off w/o the Harrasser anyway, buy the Hudd next time....LOL

The Hudd? They are great baits as well! I forgot to mention them. Hey ... where do I get some of your swimbaits?
