Hello everyone, this is a great forum you have here. Lots of great information here.

My friend and I have just started doing some boat fishing with my little 12' aluminum boat. We went to Mudlake, everything was dead there. We went to Mackay and caught a few smaller trout.

Then we went to Dog Creek. There was carp everywhere! They were in large schools swiming on the surface. I don't know if that is normal behavior but it sure looked weird. They also wouldn't take anything we had, but as I learned from looking on the forum we needed some bread or something.
The water was very murky, we could only see about 5 or 6 inches down in the water. Is the water always that cloudy or did we just hit it on a bad day? We were hopeing to catch a bass, trout or maybe a tiger musky but didn't have any luck. I also heard that there are some catfish in there is that right?

I don't know much about dog creek but would like to go back for another wack at those carp. Do those of you that fish dog creek often do pretty good or should we just forget about it? Thanks for the help.

Where is Dog Creek? never heard of it. Mud lake is clear full of perch, I've only ever ice fished it and rumor has it there was some tiger muskie in there years ago.

I have never caught a tiger there, but there is perch, bluegill, channel cats, bass, trout and of course carp. Not sure about the murky water but I have never seen it clear. If you do get into a tiger it should be exciting and I know the carp will give you a fight. I like the res. so I'd give it some more time.

Welcome to the BFT. I do not know where Dog Creek is can you explain.

There are a whole bunch of posts on carp fishing with flies if you look down a little.

Good Luck

Dog Creek is North of Gooding maybe 5 mi, ther's a sign on the side of the road. Turn left and then take the first road to the north (right turn). at the end of the gravel is dog Creek ranch and there is a road to the left, take the left (west) and you are heading to the water[Image: happy.gif]

Thanks Idahopanfish. I think we are going to try and head back there in a few weeks. Have you caught many trout there? What lures or bait usually works?

We saw alot of dead fish when we went. I talked to a biologist that said mudlake was almost all winter killed. That sucks.

Sorry so long to get back to you. My wife and I went to meet some friends up at Alturus Lake for the weekend, had a great time and even caught a limit of planters.

I have used mostly jigs with a worm at dog creek and the trout were in the 12" range when I caught them.
