I wanted to post this here although I fly fish, because this is an ANY KIND OF FISHING question
When I worked at the Lodge, a grand slam was three different species. I know in BASEBALL a grand slam is four.
So what do you consider a GRAND SLAM?

i call any of three different species a hat trick.
[signature]
dj, I am sure you have had plenty of both.

I always considered a Grand slam one of each Sport fish in the lake.

Grand Slam to me meant catching each specimen of sport fish available in a particular water. I say sport fish because many places have suckers and such. Last time I did that was last year fishing the Box Canyon of the Henry's Fork.

Cutthroat, brook and hybrid!! Im just kidding, just all the sport fish that the body of water has.

I consider a grand slam to be all species in a water or 1 species from all the major bodies that hold them. A grand slam of cutts is all 5 or 6 species(not sure which).[cool]

[#500000]I always thought a grand slam was, like in baseball 4......A brown, a brook, a rainbow and a cut....Maybe I'm wrong but don't you score 4 when you hit a grand slam......By the way do you know of a site that shows a pattern for that cripple that you used?.....WW.[/#500000]

This site and it doesn't appear to be a forum.
I was using one tied out of 8/0 Olive thread, and a brown crinkly antron shuck

2 hot blondes and a case of cold beer in my boat... now thats a grand slam.

on a serious note i always considered a grand slam, when you caught one of every species out of the lake. lake powell is a great example. i had a few grand slam days there. carp, striper, LMB,SMB, crappie, blue gill, rock bass, catfish, all in one day.

I like the first part of your answer better![Wink]

Does it get any better?

For me, a grand slam has been considered a brown, brook, cutt, and bow out of the same water. I know Wyoming has their cutt slam, which is 4 species if I'm not mistaken.

I would think a grand slam, in whatever capacity you speak of, includes 4 species.

sneaking in 4 different bars without paying the cover charge, and having 4 different beers in each. [pirate][Wink] Bonus points for getting it done in 4 hours.[shocked]

[cool][#0000ff]In my experience...both reading and personal...I have heard of many different "slams". Some are for only 3 fish...such as tarpon, permit and bones on the flats of Florida or the Bahamas. On some lakes it might be for three different kinds of bass...largemouth, smallmouth and spotted. [#0000ff]Lots of western anglers consider four species of trout to be a slam. Others go for several species of cutts.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In short, you pretty much establish your own criteria for your own personal SLAM. What the heck, if it is your goal you can make it whatever you want it to be.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]On many of the "warm water" lakes here in Utah, if I catch more than four species in a day, I call it a "GRAND SLIME".[/#0000ff]

Wy cutt slam is 4- The total cutt slam I bet would be around 8 to 10 species. In Utah - 3 native could push to 4 if you wanted to be technical I guess.
A grand slam for fishing is whatever parameters you set.

I think I like whatever species are in the body of water you are fishing, which wether it be the baseball terms or the species I did a GRAND SLAM Wahoo me![cool]
