Thought I'd take my brother fishing yesterday, so I got up early and drove 2 hrs to pick him up and we hit the Provo River. There's still a fire above Bridal Veil Falls and the helicopters were busy sucking water from the river. We could see the smoke in a few different areas on the mountain.

Stopped at a couple different spots as we drove up the highway...we didn't even see a fish being caught! A few fly-fishermen on the river but didn't see anyone having any luck. We used various rapalas and panther martin's. The river looked still pretty full for this time of year. That river is not what it used to be. Growing up, we'd catch some trophy sized browns and 'bows out of there. Consistently.

After having enough of that, we drove on up to Deer Creek Res., and tried over by the first island that's not really an island. One other person and his grandson fishing in that area, and they didn't catch anything either. We tried everything, even catching grasshoppers for bait. They were jumping every once (maybe LMB?) in a while but I think that was just so they could laugh at us.

I told my brother had I brought my pontoon boat then I would've caught a few! (always gotta sound confident).

Has anyone had any luck on the Provo this summer? That's one place in Utah that hates me.Vowed to never fish it again lol

NO luck here either. Fished it this am above sundance. Yes the bridal veil fire is up and smoldering again, no copters but there are small fires all over the hill. I was using small caddis and green drakes, and various bead head nymphs, managed to catch 1 brown that broke my line and had a few just come up to look. I think that the provo in that section has so much traffic that the fish are very finicky, try the weber river next time...[frown]

I've had very good luck on the Middle Provo the last couple of weeks. Caught a 19" Brown and several 12-16" on Sunday. The Provo is heavily pressured and the fish are difficult, rarely do lures work this time of year. Your best bet would be nymphs.

That's just it, even the fly-fishermen weren't catching anything. I think the term 'heavily fished' is an understatement when it comes to the Provo.

Logan River is getting that way, but not nearly as bad as the Provo.
