Went up to Henry's Lake this Friday and Saturday. We drove up from Salt Lake City. It was our first time on the lake, so we decided we should rent a boat, and it sure was a good thing we did. Supposedly the fishing has been slow up at Henry's the past few weeks, but we decided to not follow the trend. On the two days of fishing, we caught 14 fish, the biggest at 7 pounds and the other big one at 5 pounds. Both were the infamous Cutt-Bow. We were using a worm/marshmallow to catch 11 of them and my buddy caught three of his on Powerbait. We tried some wooly buggers and double renegades, but didn't find any luck on those. We were fishing near the Cliffs by Jerry Cobb hole. Today, there were two fishing boats near us and it appeared they were catching some as well. Overall, a great trip, and I'll be back up there in the future.

Thanks for the report. It sounds like you did ok since you chose one of the slowest times of the year to fish Henrys.[cool]

The fishing will pick up again when the water temperature drops.

What is infamous about the Hybrids?

[#004080] They are "infamous" because of their huge size in Henry's. When I go up around Memorial Day (the opener), you can consistantly catch 8-10lbers and there are a few in the 12-15 lb range caught each year.[/#004080]

Even one close to 20[Wink]

[#000080]I think I saw that 20"...on your profile! [/#000080]

[#000080]Good job. Maybe I need a guide service..[laugh][/#000080]

I was just messing around (forgot to add a Smiley) I work at BS flies and have fished henrys close to 30 times this year. They do get huge in there. I had bill tell me about his biggest ever fish and wow.

[cool][#000050] So you are also familiar with Hebgen...?[/#000050]
[#000050]I spent last weekend up there and did really well....between the rain, hail, lightning and torrential downpours.[pirate][/#000050]
[#000050]Beautiful place to fish!![/#000050]

Any pictures?

I am familiar with it, however I don't fish it much. I find it almost impossible for me to drive past henrys and fish somewhere else[laugh]

[:p][#000080] No pics of the fish cause I was by myself and I'm also pretty careful with catch and release and try to keep them in the water. I took some camera phone pics of the rain/hail action from the motel balcony. Sorta grainy, but here they are...[/#000080]

What size were the rainbows and browns?? Glad you had a good trip. I am thinking about fishing Hebgen this fall, but never have fished it. Does it hav a good ramp/dock?? Mike

[cool][#002850] Mike, the fish were decent sized, in the 2lb class. About 20-22", some smaller. The browns were also about 22". Good fighters.[/#002850]
[#002850]There are several good ramps on the North shoreline. One is really good at the Yellowstone Holiday Resort and they have a store, cabins, and slips for rent. I think they close after Labor Day, but you could call them about using the ramp after that.[/#002850]

[#002850]I stayed down the road at the Mountain Inn Motel across from the Happy Hour Bar. They are kinda pricey, but it was within a mile of the ramp and I could stumble home from the bar without driving...[crazy][/#002850]
[#002850]I think there is a public ramp further down the lake that is also ok for all size boats.[/#002850]
[#002850]I did all my trolling with flashers and worms in about 45-50' of water. The fish seemed to be stacked at about 30-35'[/#002850]
[#002850]It's a beautiful lake and should start to really turn on as the temps drop.[/#002850]
[#002850]Best of luck up there. [cool][/#002850]

We were there Saturday and did well . It is getting cold at night and the lake is fishing like late fall . The water temp was 63 . We were using nightcrawlers and marshmellows In 15' of water just off the cliffs . If you want to catch big fish land have a ball this is the place to be .

I will be there in a couple of weeks (first week of Sept.) Going to do henry's for the first three days then a trip to Jelly stone then Montana licenses for a couple of days. I love the fish the arm of the Madison on the corner of Hebgen.
All flies though.
