I would say it's been done, but not very much. You should give it a try tonight. I have stood along the Jordon bike trail and watched white bass feed a hatch just like trout.
I would stay a good bit south and concentrate on faster water areas just below control dams. Below Winchester park, by Murry golf course has some riffle/run areas I have seen surface feeding on..
If you see fish feeding find out what they are feeding on. For random searching I would be throwing ants, beetles, lots of hoppers, damsel flies and the like. Also streamers (clousers) and bead head wormy looking things.

I do, every chance I get. White Bass, Crappie and CARP! with some trout.
It is within walking distance from my house on the west side.

I have flyfished it before, and the fishing is usually very good. Seems like every time I went though I was always catching tons of bluegill in between the crappie and whites and other species, so I stopped going. The other big problem I had was getting out of the river. There are some spots where the brush and trees on the bank are nearly impenetrable, and I didnt want to puncture my waders.
I recently went down there to drown some worms, and there were THOUSANDS of damsel flies everywhere I went. I would use a damsel fly nymph, and I am sure you would do well.
My favorite fly there was an olive colored wooly bugger.
