Camped over the weekend at Black Lake at the South end of the Seven Devils range. We were hoping to be rewarded for such a long an rocky drive with a brookie bonanza.

Alas, the lake appears to be trout-free. It seems the state planted tiger muskie in the lake last year and we didn't see ONE fish jump the whole weekend. We talked to the other campers and nobody had caught a fish or seen one.

We did fish for a few hours and ended up catching 2 18-inch tiger muskies (photo attached). I hope the state knows what they're doing here. I guess the plan is to let the sterile muskies die off after they've killed all the brookies and replant with cutts.

does the Idaho Fish & Game ever know what there doing? thats my question i mean look at the Mountain Lion and mule deer deal in the southeast Idaho look at the fish and game jumping ship with the Twin lakes company to build a dam up the Oneida Narrows. look what all the farmers and land owners done over on the west side of Preston to boycott deer hunting all together i mean we can go on and on and on here but that is about all we can do just show up to the meetings they have a complain i guess............

Yes IDFG knows what they're doing (at least sometimes [Smile]). I can't talk a whole lot about the big game situations, because I honestly don't know as much as you probably do, but as far as the fisheries side of things goes, I can pretty confidently say that they at least know what's going on or are trying to figure it out. I personally know and have worked with fisheries biologists from four different agencies, and several different departments within a couple of those agencies. They work very hard to try to keep everybody happy. When you think of the huge variety of people that they have to work with and try to please; everybody from farmers and water users, to extreme environmentalists, all the while keeping in mind that they have a limited budget to work with, it becomes a little more clear the huge task they have set for them.

Sorry, I seem to have climbed up on a soap box for a minute [blush]. But keep going to the meetings and voicing your opinion. Public opinion has more effect than many people realize.

Ps: Tatohead, congrats on the tiger.
