Wife and I went out to Willard in the evening on water at 6:00 p.m., went directly to light pole and fast trolled in 7 to 15' of water. After three passes and no bites, motored over by the island and trolled around it in 5 to 8' of water with same results. Ended up in East Bay catfishing and she caught one about 12" long on a shrimp and nite-crawler.
Great night and beautiful sunset. Water was glass to slight ripple, you know the type when you are cruising across at 35 mph and it feels like your standing still as the boat does not pitch at all.
Forgot to check the water temp but the water was quite muddy/murky. The fish were marking the sonar frequently but never found any grouped up nor seen anything in the way of a boil.
Talked to a few others out there and only one had caught 1 wiper.

Were they out in the morning? The water might be clearer in the am. It was noticably murkier than the last time I was out a couple of weeks ago and we did much better. I think the water has dropped at least 6 inches too. We also had a pretty big wind over the weekend which may have contributed to the churn of the bottom.

They were out in the afternoon on sat they were fishing for cats and caught wipers instead. Maybe they have moved in towards shore to get food?

My neighbor got his first Wiper Sunday morning off the bank by the outlet. I had given him a few cranks to try as he had never caught one before. He said he had woke up and could not sleep so he went fishing right after a storm. From what he described to me he hit an early morning boil and managed a nice 21" fish. He than called me when he got home cause he was not sure how to fillet it. It was a very nice fish.

One of the guys at work that lives in Plain City told me that last week they had boils going on when they were out in the afternoon but that the water was clearer. What made me really notice the water clarity is that I check the swim of whatever I am using and even the chrome and blue rattle trap disappeared in just 6 inches of water. Thinking about getting up early Sunday and make a run to Strawberry, if I don't, then I will probably go back out to Willard as it is only about 20 minutes from home to launch at North Marina.
Really wanted to go back to the gorge this weekend but my Grandson is graduating from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts and has earned his arrow of light so gotta support him and his effort.

Good luck either way I want to go back out there soon just dont know if its worth it yet? Congradulations with your grandson.

i think the water being so murky has to do with the big track hoe digging up the dike???, so the water will probably stay pretty dirty untill that lovely project is done.
we went out monday and caught one one wiper on a rattlin rap, fished from 7pm till dark. pulling cranks seems to not be what they want right now.

I could be wrong but I doubt the dike repair has anything to do with the muddy water. In past years when the water was this low or lower, this has been a common sight. The waves sloshing back and forth, with out the rocks to stop the waves from pounding the mud shore is what makes the lake so murky. If we get a few days with little wind or boats that make all those waves, it will do wonders for the murky water conditions[cool].
