[#800000]We got to Mantua at about 8:30 this morning and headed for the NE bay. Found a couple of likely looking holes with 14 to 15 feet of water and set up 4 rods with drop shot hooks and weights. No jigs, just hooks. Baited each with a piece of night crawler and lowered away. Fish on! [fishin][/#800000]

[#800000]Quit about Noon after catching over 40 of them. All ‘gills. No bass, not trout, just ‘gills. We kept a few for the skillet and they looked like this before they went under the knife:[/#800000]

[Smile] thanks for the report dubob I have been thinking of taking the kids in the boat after some bluegills this summer. Hopefully soon now that it is cooling off a little.

I have never been to Mantua, and I was wondering what the boat ramp is like? Is is concrete or dirt? Also where are some good places to fish?

Boat ramp is kinda small but all concrete I haven't been up there this year but had success in the N.E corner

Thanks, I might head up there on Tuesday.
Also where are some good places to fish?
Head north east from the boat ramp and after about 1/3 of a mile or so look for some openings in the seaweed. Anywhere you find water that is 9 or 10 feet deep or deeper likely hold fish.

My bro and I went Thursday evening. It was real nice. We slayed the gillies and caught a dozen plus bass all on mini jigs. I also caught a 20+ inch rainbow. I found it's totally unneccesary to tip with bait for these fish. These two were caught on consecutive casts in about 8-10 feet out in the middle:

Well done. Plan on using that trout photo as a postage stamp (LOL)?[Wink]

My daughter asked to go fishing with me so I took her up to Mantua Saturday morning 8/16. She's not really much into fishing (I figured she really wanted a "loan") and the few times we've been in the past have not been very successful.

Saturday we fished a hole 16.4 feet deep with about 1' of weed slightly to the right of a line from the launch ramp to the knoll and about halfway across.

Using heavy ice fishing jigs tipped with nightcrawler she caught bluegill and a few perch until she got sick of pulling them in. I didn't get to fish much since I was busy taking her fish off and keeping her jig fishworthy.

I brought home 30 of the hand sized gillies to keep me eating good for several meals.
