I was fishing at north lake irvine california and caught a fish i have never seen before. It was shaped like a crappie(i hav personly never seen one but from pics from the internet it was generaly that shape) but spikes on it back were red and didnt flare at the end like crappie do? The edge of the tail was also red and it was about a foot long. Please help identify or asks any Q's

That sounds like some of the Tilapia that are in SoCal. I have caught some in a variation of colors.

The small amount of Red around the dorsal, Caudal and anal fins make it a dead give away.
