Well, since the last 2 nights only produced 5 total bites, I decided a mid-day trip was worth a try.

CatmanDo and I hit the lake at noon on Saturday to try for a few hours, and boy did it pay off.

First pole in the water at about 1230, fished till about 415pm. In the first hour, we had about 5 in the boat[Image: bobwink.gif]. We had to move around for'em[crazy], and in the last hour to hour and a half we put the rest in the boat[sly]. I think we lost 2 or 3 at the boat[pirate]. Not counting all the bites that we missed due to lack of attention[angelic].

Not sure of the water temp, but for sure cooler than normal. Light breeze from the south, so we stayed hidden in the reeds to block some of the movement of the bait.

Ended the afternoon with over 90 lbs of fish!!

[cool][#0000ff]Good report and pics. Points out a couple of things. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]1. Fishing for cats can sometimes be better during daylight hours than after dark.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]2. Don't stay in one place all day, trying to wait out the fish. If they ain't bitin', find someplace they are. They not only move around too, but sometimes might be inactive in one spot and feeding in another spot.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]What depths worked best, and what baits?[/#0000ff]

Exactly right Tube. We fished on bottom and top. Constantly moving the bait around. Only one good hit on the bottom (with out a float). Most came with a float next to the reeds, either right on the bottom, or just off of the bottom, above the mud. We moved slowly and quitely into our fishing spots. Commonly stopping short of our hole, and casting into it.

We used white bass and fished the corner just out from Sarratoga Springs. VERY SHALLOW WATER...2- 4 FT.

A few of them were, but most were pretty healthy. The bigger ones were a little skinny, but thick fillets.

[cool][#0000ff]I noticed that the cats we got last week seemed to be lighter for their length than fish caught earlier in the year...and not just because of being spawned out either. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I keep fishing logs, with lengths and weights of fish caught. Our last cats over 24" were 10 - 15 percent lighter than fish of the same length caught in other times. They should be getting plenty of food. Not sure why they are skinnier.[/#0000ff]

Catfishgitter I about fell out of my chair when I seen those pictures!!! [Wink] Nice work on those kitties. We went out again the next night on a different bend and landed about 50 cats smallest about 6inches largest a little over 7lb. There were doves flying all over the place.

Great Kitties! Been reading and checking the forum for months now finally created an account. Fish the westside of UT Lake for quite some time now, was wondering if anyone has directions to get to the Knolls? Help would be great!
