Being the highly moderated, always obliterated spot for family fun that BFT has become; why on earth are there booze adds? Seems odd that mild curse words, something dramatic or someone typing caps gets shit on but 100 proof bourbon adds relating to "taking it along for a fishing trip" is okay? Seriously, now my daughter is going to become an alcoholic when she visits this site for fishing info. I would rather her swear....

True I was hammered for swearing. While I was hammered!

its on all of firstlight.nets sites. money talks and they will put just about anything on the ads for the right money.[:p]

Good question and I don't know the answer.

Maybe it's because people with families drink booze?
Are you thinking that you can't be family-oriented and drink booze?
Seriously, your daughter is not going to become an alcoholic by viewing a liquor ad on a fishing website.
Seriously.

I love the "weed" ads. That stuff is great. It's the best cheap belly warmer I've ever had and I've always had to boot leg it in. I've even had a hard time finding it in Wyoming and Nevada (I didn't think anything was off limits there). According to the link however the liqour store in Layton carries it (I'll be making a trip soon to find out). Honestly it's the best ice fishing sipper EVER. They should hang this stuff around the necks of St. Bernards.

Exactly toyguy, thus a swear word or controversy here and there wont corrupt any 8 year olds surfing the site... Just like a booze add on every stinking page wont make anyone an alcoholic...

All I can say here guys, is that there are some things we can control on our site and some things we can not control, This site is paid for with advertising and even if we don't like all the ads, we all enjoy the site or we would not be here. I guess we will have to put up with it for now until a new one comes along.

Agreed completely.
Human beings are great at visualizing the worst possible outcome of any situation, then ignore that it has a remote probability of occurring, and then nonetheless base all future behaviors on the assumption that the remote event will actually occur, regardless of all other possible, and more importantly,
probable, outcomes.
It’s also known as political correctness. The tail wagging the dog, if you will.
Don’t expose people to life! Don’t say anything that’s not June & Ward Cleaver-wholesome!
I love this website. But let’s be real; it’s a money-making venture, and it needs advertising dollars to support it. And while I can’t prove it, I would assume that the vast majority of users on this site are adults. So as a majority user of this sight, I say let the liquor ads roll. And for the minority (kids) that are exposed to adult things (liquor ads), I say parents should talk to their kids about responsible use of a substance that can provide a human being with temporary pleasure. The answer is not to hide it away in an attempt to deny it exists, with the implied message that “this thing is bad”. It is not a fishing website’s role to do a parent's job. Censorship is a scary, slippery slope once you start down it.
Besides, why on earth would anyone think that a single-malt scotch from the Islay region of Scotland, sipped in front of a fire on a cold winter nite is a bad thing? It’s one of the finer things in life, actually…

Agreed completely as well. I agree with everyone thus far. Even the thoughts of sipping this fine bourbon (the advertising really does work, I drove to Layton) at noon today.

Actually, JBinUtah, Wild Turkey 101 (meaning 101 proof) is nectar of the gods. 1 cube in a glass and it; well, there is no better value on Bourbon on the planet. Not to mention that the taste is exquisite. Completely top-shelf stuff.
When I tire of drinking Bowmore's, 101's my goto.
Don't even get me started on tequila (I'll leave that to TD).

Now this is some constructive discussion...
My go-to is Bulleit... 3 rocks... 2 oz... Next would be Makers... MMMM... 15 minutes to go till I am going to make me one.

OK, I gotta fess up. As a creature of habit, and one who’s a firm believer in “if it ain’t broke…”, I’ve never had MM, and I’ve told friends I really need to get around to it. It’s just that 101’s sooo good. Between that and Bowmores,,, geez. Plus, I’ve done a fair amount of tasting around (or at least I thought), and that’s how I got down to these two.
And now you go throw Bulleit at me. I went out to their website. Nice. I’m impressed with your off-the-beaten-path choice. I hate the beaten path.
OK, forget about the winter sipping thing. Fall’s getting close; looks like me and my buds gots some horizon-broadening to do.
CinCin!
Or, as they say in America, whiskey for my men, and beer for my horses[

THAT'S IT! You're all banned! How dare you question the powers that be! You should be ashamed of yourselves, your acting like a bunch of alcohol drinking (*&!#&^%$ (subconsiously you have no choice but to drink and swear now that you've been exposed to such words) Ahhhh, I'm bored. I need to stop working and go fishing....
Oh, and where is the liquor store in Layton? If it's good enough for BFT then it's good enough for me [
]. Maybe I'll stop in next time I'm up that way.

i think it all has to do with perception. i myself am a raging alcoholic and cuss like a sailor. however seeing a booze add doesent make me think about drinking while im out fishing (when in all actuality i do!) but its probably precieved by others as saying, " Hey looky here, if you fish, you must drink!" not true. this could also open another can of worms based simply on the fact that Utah is a religous state as it is, which is none of my buisness because its someones own personal choice.
i think its just advertised because its where the money comes from is all and nothing more.
