Before i start to say anything. I just wanted to let you guys know that all the advice and tips on here is very useful. I just recently started to fish at this pond near my house. So far i have caught large mouth bass, carps, sun fish, eels, and unfortunately some turtles. I notice whenever i throw it really far out to the middle of the pond, nothing seems to bite at all. But when i throw it about 20 feet out or so, theres always something biting. Mainly small ones though. Any advice or reasoning for this one? I am planning to go again this weekend. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance.

The distance that you cast out will not play as much of a role as the spot that you cast into.

If the pond is shallow, the fish can be just about anywhere in the pond. You will just have to get feel for what is out there.

If you are fishing for Bass, they prefer to have some kind of structure or cover. A fallen tree can be another form of hiding place for them.[cool]

If your pond is not all that weedy on the shores and you can clearly see where you are casting I would reccomend casting along the shore, specifically casting in points on the pond that act as little pools. Sometimes bigger fish use them as feeding troughs! Smile

I fish the pond behind my house as well. In my case, largemouth bass hang mostly near shore where they can grab frogs and insects that jump into the pond. Overhanging shrubs, grass, and cattails are great places to cast to. Try some Senko-style worms or a little topwater action. I've been slaughtering the largemouth in my pond with a Jackal Mikey Jr. which is a 5/8 oz jointed hard swimbait that runs very close to the surface.

In my case, I use worms (either weightless or shakey head), frog, or baitfish imitators as there are no crayfish in the pond.
