Full Version: UL from the bank tonight...where to go?

Hey, so I've finally decided to hit Utah Lake for the first time tonight for some catfish...couple of questions...

1) Where should we go? I don't know what the water levels are like and I don't know where they are this time of year...some specific suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Seems that a shallow area with reeds nearby is the ticket, but I don't know where that would be.

2) It seems that white bass is the way to go for bait...I've never fished for them before, I imagine light bass tackle and smaller plastics will work? Any other suggestions?

3) What bait do you suggest I pick up in case I don't get any white bass? I don't want to count on catching bait to be able to fish...

Thanks for the info!

Figured out #3, headed to Sportsmens Warehouse right now to get some chub and/or carp meat

[cool][#0000ff]Haven't heard many good reports of fishing off the bank recently. The storms and wind have pushed a lot of the fish out into deeper water. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]That being said, Lindon is possibly a good spot, with deeper water close to the dike...and sometimes good fishing inside the harbor.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]White bass are still scattered but you can catch a few with just a piece of crawler about 3 feet under a bobber. They also hit small spinners and little tube jigs with a piece of worm on them.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There have also been some fish being taken off the outside dike at the Pelican Bay marina, over on the west side. If the weather is calm for a few hours in a row, the fish come fairly close to the rocks.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you want to drive south, the dikes for the boat channel at Lincoln Beach can be good at night this time of year. Fish right off the end and cast straight out as far as you can. Crawlers will work, but minnows, carp meat or white bass meat will usually catch bigger cats. Also some good white bass fishing close to shore along the southeast end of the south dike at times.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Good luck.[/#0000ff]

Hmm, bad timing but I'm all excited to go, so we'll see what happens!

Just picked up the gear I needed, so I think I'll hit the water around 8pm and see what happens...

This spot sounds like my best bet?

How do I go about getting there from hwy 15? Is it significantly further away coming from the north?

Thanks again!

For White Bass, are you talking about the spot I marked with the red x in the photo? Any preference on which one to fish from for catfish?

Thanks again!

[cool][#0000ff]Lincoln Beach is about an hour from Salt Lake. (See PDF file map for directions.)[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The fishing there is probably some of the best bank tanglin' around the lake. Used to be better prospects before they closed a lot of the access to other spots.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Your picture is of the right area. You can drive out on the south dike, but not the north one. The best white bass fishing is usually from where the reeds begin around to the end of the dike. They sometimes come in close but often they are a short cast out...in 5 feet of water or more.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The cats will also come in fairly close at night, but sometimes you have to really chuck it straight east, into 7 or 8 feet of water. Might take some experimenting to find the "zone". Chances are there will be others there to help.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I made some sloppy red marks on your map. I was trying to show you to drive out to the end of the south dike and to fish there.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Good luck.[/#0000ff]

It gets crowded, huh? That I'm not excited about...at least I can see if others are catching anything. I have a couple of longer rods that I use to get some distance, I'll bring those. I read a couple of your posts about float tubing and Sad to say I'm going to buy one now...thanks for THAT. I'll pick up a used one on ksl or something. I really would like to try a pontoon w a motor, but I need to keep as much as possible in my business at the moment. Sad, but true. It seems like a way more efficient way to go, and I do like being close to the water like that...
