Went to 6th street dam tonight in search of some walleyes. DNR report said...and I quote [#000000]"Some nice walleye measuring 20+ inches have been caught by those fishing off the bridges and those wading".[/#000000]

[#000000]Well.... hmmm.... there were 4 of us out there wading tossing crawlers and crankbaits. No walleye to be found. We did run into some nice channel cats that put up some good fights. I landed 3 cats in the 15 inch range and a couple smallmouth bass. The river also seemed to be overflowing with turtles. I must have seen 5-6 of them.[/#000000]

So the Grand River 6th street dam fishing report is................ Good channel cat action and smallmouth bass when floating crawlers. No walleye or salmon to be found yet. Turtles everywhere.

I was at the ladder this weekend and didnt see any salmon there either, water is very warm for salmon

If you see a guy out there wearing a red white and blue baseball hat --- that's me. Stop over and say hi.

I'm going to make it a point to hit the ladder at least once or twice a week searching for the early run. It gets crowded fast out there and I'd rather just catch mine early before it gets to crazy.

The Pond
Pond isn't doing very good I'm afraid. Seems as though we have a parasite virus or something. Little white worms in the flesh of the fish. I need to do some research and find out how to best treat it.

6th Street Dam
I hit 6th street dam in Grand Rapids Wed & Thrus this week. Wednesday- I took 2 bass and one channel cat. No Salmon to be found. A guy I've never seen down there before reported 2 walleye (both in the low 20 inch range) were taken mid afternoon in the bowl drifting crawlers. Like I said.. I've never seen the guy before so you know..... Walleye in the bright sunlight of afternoon in 3 feet of water ..... hmmm... .. not so sure about that one but ok. Thursday- I landed a couple of small bass and I saw one King (almost stepped on the thing) It was pretty dark and looked like it had been in the river for a while. A guy(someone I do know and trust), said that one King was taken early in the morning on a fly/egg. It was a hen and was also pretty dark. These couple of fish were probably from the little cold snap we had a couple weeks ago. Water is still pretty warm.

Good flathead and channel cat action in the evenings. Saw a couple nice ones taken by some guys using cut bait.

Good Fishin,
Mike

Grand River Saturday 9-6-8

The River
OK.... so we got lots of needed rain and a dip in the tempature. Water levels are up about 6 inches and temp at 6th street dam was 68 degrees.
The Reports
Local bait/tackle shop guy says limit catches in an hour being taken out on the piers at Grand Haven. Yellow and sliver spoons have been the big producers.

No reports of any new salmon catches at 6th street dam. I fished it tonight along with about 10 other guys. Myself and one other guy did spot a few fins but no new fish taken yet.

Walleye action has seemed to pick up since the rain. 2 legal fish were taken yesterday by a friend of mine. I landed 3 walleye tonight but none of mine were legal (go figure) 13, 12, & 14. Two were taken with 3/8 oz spoon (I ain't tellin the color) [Wink] and one with crawler harness.

Channel Cats- Ok so if you like catching these things now is a good time. Several guys pulling in cats on all types of bait at dusk. I took one 17 inch tonight using a crawler harness.
Losses---
Pliers- Another highlight of the night was me loosing my forcept piers to the river while trying to take the cat off the line.

I lost 4 freshly made fly's (there's an hour down the toliet)

Oh and I also found out the little flashlight that I bought to clip to the wadders for that evening fishing wasn't exactly waterproof. (Ooooops)
