[cool]Have had a couple of questions about putting a motor on a float tube. Check this out at http://www.powrtube.com/ [Image: mark4.jpg]

TubeDude-

Would you have to register your tube once you've added a motor like a pontoon?

Wouldn't the force of the motor pushing you through the water pull your legs backwards towards the prop?

it depends on the state your in. Some states require anything that flots to be registered others only requier it on certain waters.

Here in utah if yuo had a tube and a motor yes you would have to register it. Utah law says ANYTHING with a motor need to be registerd.

[cool]Don't misunderstand. I ain't promotin' those contraptions. I'm still a fundamentalist. Hands free and hassle free. But, I think the concept is to have the motor pull you backwards, with controls in the front. It allows lazy or "kicking challenged" tubers to move longer distances and to troll from their craft without getting hernias or terminal muscle spasms.

As far as I'm concerned, these are just an interesting "ponderosity". Heck, if I was gonna put a motor on, I'd go all the way. Twin Yammy 150's, outriggers, flying bridge...the whole bit. Maybe even a big BBQ setup on the fantail. Music, dancing girls....and then they will come get me and take me back to the home.

As FFM mentioned, regulations are state specific. Some states are moving toward registration of plain old float tubes. Others do not get nervous until you have a gas powered engine. If a state requires registration for a rubber boat and motor setup, then it would likely be looking at a powered float tube the same way. When a state starts regulating float tubes too heavy, it's time to load up the moving van.

Yes once it got a motor, it has to be registered. I paid 10 dollors to register my minn kota edura 30 for my float power. I have the whole set up, but I'd rather be in my boat...
