hey guys i just talk to a buddy that stoped on his way howe from hunting at the vissitors center. he said about 100 kokes were already up to the look out. so its time to go for the big rainbows boys. night fish the inlets with a split shot and salmon eggs. i used to go every night in the old days. alot of 5 pound bows and every night some one gets a biggun. [fishin] also this means the jiggin should be happening out from the ladders. ken

Tell me more about fishing the koke spawn - where do you recommend fishing besides the ladders, how do you do it, etc, Can you still catch the kokes stagging for the spawn?

We are thinking about float tubing up there on Saturday at either the ladders or CCW and kicking to the Strawberry River inlet. Any recommendations for the big bows and kokes??

Thanks for the heads up!

need a boat for the best spot. strawberry river inlet. but ive caught them at trout creek and at both the small creeks on the backside of the berry. ive caught them on both sc side boat ramps and at the dam while spawning. yes i still catch kokes while doing this. but they dont bite a lure or the bait. they swim threw the line while coming in towards the creek and get tangled. we call it cowboy style. we have even took off all the hooks and put a split shot on the end of the line and done it . their big toothey jaw gets all wrapped up. another system is to put a split shot at end and 2 ft above attach a small treble hook like a 12 then another a foot above that. when they swim threw the line. it looks like a normal bite. set the hook and they are hooked in the jaw almost every time. and never bit the bait. grren power bait on the trebles to float it up in where the fish are swimming. release all femails guys!!! have fun ken.[fishin]

Sounds like this could be done in float tubes - I would think that snagging kokes in the inlets is prohinted and highly regulated??

dont fish in the river or creeks!!! cast into the lake close to shore where it flows in. if a fish is hooked in the mouth how is it snagging. if a fish is tangled in the line how is it snagging? i never pop a jig into them or a spoon. that is snagging. and yes the fish cops are there under cover... plain close and fishing. i havent gone for about 9 yrs. but i might give her a night this year. its the rainbows that all the people realy go for that know about it. see the kokes run up drop eggs millions of whitch get dislodged from later spawners on the beds. these flow back into the lake and the bows take full advantage of it! yes a float tube will work but it wont work as well as being on the bank. see when the fish come into run up stream they hug the banklines in large schools. thats why they swim into the lines and get tangled. its fun and some very great pic,s of hook jawed kokes can be had by all for the wall. let the femails go!!! every 1 please... ken[fishin]

I was told by a game warden that the moving water inside the lake boundary was still considered the river if the water is moving. Do you know if this is true?

thats what fish and game told me to.

False. Read the definitions in the proclamation. Unless posted otherwise, a lake or reservoir begins at the standing water level currently in that body of water. Current inside the standing water level is part of the lake or reservoir. The stream begins where the standing water level ends.

I checked the proc and this is what I read:

Lake
means the standing water level existing at any time within a lake basin. Unless posted otherwise, a stream flowing inside or within the high water mark is not considered part of the lake.

[#000000] So I guess as long as you are fishing the edge of the water of the lake where the stream enters and 'straight across' the channel you will be legal...right?[/#000000]

at the ladders 1 cannot fish up beond the last ladder drop showing or sticking up from the water. this leaves about 75 yrs of chanle that is ok to fish. its combat durring the days and still pritty tight at night until about 1 am then alot leave.
