Hello, I'm going on a fishing trip tomorrow thats going to take me to ultimately to Henry's lake Idaho but i will be in salt lake for maybe a couple days. I was wondering if it would be worth the drive out to Flaming Gorge for a couple days of mack jiggin, i heard it was a top notch spot. I know nothing about the lake and not much about jigging for mackinaw any tips or suggestions?

Well your in luck, Flaming Gorge is starting to get really good for lakers right now. Not to mention if you have the itch to catch a trophy red Koke (for release of couse), then now is an excellent time to hit up the Gorge.
Now I'm no genious on Lake Trout but I do chase the Kokanee up there. If you need any info or help with lures or choice of area let me know and I'll tell you the latest.
As for the Lakers, this time of year it doesn't take a Pro to figure out how to catch them, considering they will stack and I mean stack on certain spawning grounds.
There are plenty of peps in the Mack Attack Crew that should be willing to give you a few tips.
Good Luck !!!! [cool]

[#000000]The Gorge is a big place. Many here will say that what you have heard about the Mackinaw is true, and it certainly is. However, I wouldn't just think of the Gorge that way. You asked if it would be worthe the two days. My answer is that the Flaming Gorge countrly is always worth even a few hours or less.[Smile] Even if you don't want to fish there is much to see and remember there. You can't possibly do it in two days. Explore this website a bit and you will see what you are missing [Wink] :[/#000000]

[#000000]You don't just have to fish for lake trout. There is smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, burbot and a few others. I can't tell you how to get a huge lake trout if that is your goal but if you know your stuff two days would be plenty to get one. So, do you have any particular type of fishing planed? What part of the lake would you like to go to? Are you planning to stay close to I-80 or do you not mind traveling the highways? If you tell us that you are just after big Mackinaw then many people here will give you tips. Or, if you want to fish for whatever you will also get tips on spots/techniques. What kind of fishing would you like to do? [fishin][/#000000]

[#000000]If you are planning go haul your boat to the Gorge or like you say Henry's Lake I would like to tell about the invasive species Zebra/Quagga mussel threat if you don't know about it. Sorry if you already knew but it is always better safe than sorry. Just quickly check out these links if you have not already and clean your boat:[/#000000] [/#000000]

So, because they're stacked, its starting to get really good, and somebody's figured out how to catch them?

PM me with some tips. I'd love to know!

In case someone wants some advice from a supposed "pro.", I'd say to go the said stacks, drop down, and pray. We're approaching the toughest fishing of the season unless you count 3-pounders. Yes, I'll get some 20's and 30's in the next month, but it won't be easy, and I won't get them every day like I've been doing up to now.

The approach for the next month is no secret. Go to Linwood Bay, see your sonar light up like a Christmas tree (attached), drop a tube jig of your choice (color DOESN'T matter), take two Advil, and again, pray.
