Me and three buddies have now filled 4 elk tags and our only archery deer tag! All elk were spikes and all were shot in the same spot within 9 days of eachother! Starting on sunday the 17th my buddy colten spined a spike and I finished him with a heart shot... Tyson shot a nice 23" 3x4 the same night. Wednesday Trevor copied the first and spined a 2nd spike in the same spot. Sunday the 24th I got mine from the same stand again...a nice spike shot in the lungs at 20 yards. Tyson shot his tuesday from the same stand again! It was a great year for yearling elk...despite some annoying guys with a LE any bull tag that were tromping blindly and stupidly all over the area.
--Quick note... we had a very stranged year for deer in this spot. Usually we harvest a couple nice bucks including my wife's 176 inch typical 4x4 last year. This year we've only had a couple dry does in the area, only one yearling buck. Anybody else notice a drop in the northern deer herd?? Good luck out there!
