My wifey and family members are running the Top-of-Utah marathon in 2 weeks. I'm too cheap to pay the extra $25 late fee so I'm not going to run. Instead, I've been looking for a good excuse to hit Newton since I'll be up there anyway. I can only fish for 3 hours. Does anyone know if the road going up is OK or under construction? Can I get there early or is there a gate thats locked till ???.Any special tips for muskies?I'll post the pics - even if its an empty hook.

i went up there a week earlier in the month, water is very low. No gates, roads are good, open 24/7. Trolled around a coule different Rapalas and spoons but only hooked up with 1 small muskie with perch colored rap , switch up to small jigs tipped with worm if you just want to catch some small crappie/gills along the dam

Try some 3-1/2" Cut'r Bugs in changeable craw/ chartreuse laminate or watermelon, rigged split shot or shakey head for largemouth.
The water was dropping fast a couple weeks ago, so I don't know how it is now for launching boats.
Good luck!

I went up last Friday to see the water level.....Its way to low to try launching any good size boat boat with a motor.

I saw some out there with float tubes and waders.

Good luck to ya!

[#ff0000]Fun thing about Newton is you can sight fish the Tiger Muskies. If you see any kind of surface activity it is usually a big hungry TM shaking things up. Hustle over to the excitement/disturbance and cast like crazy! The west side usually treats me better but not always. Enjoy.[/#ff0000]

went out to newton today ( september 9th) and i caught a nice bass, 22 inch and 3 pounds 5 ounces. also had a few muskie followers but no bites. also watched a muskie that would swim with it's head out of the water, maybe the missing link in evolution? [:/]

Nice report Dan, looks like a nice bass. Those musky do that head above water thing when the oxy level gets low in a lake, at least that is what I've heard. WH2
