We spent another 5 days chasing bass all over. Drop shotted or jigged from shallow to 25 feet. Not may legals for us this trip (over 12"), maybe about a half dozen each day, but we did average 100+ small bass each day. Crappie are still everywhere, just on the small side 7-9 inches. I didn't see much catfish being caught, but then I wasn't really looking.

Thanks for the report EZOP. We are planning a trip up the first weekend in October. We like to fish on Oxbow so I am hoping that we find a few bigger fish than what you did. When you travel all the way from Salt Lake it's nice to nail a few bigger fish (12+ inchs) than a dozen a day. We have never fished up there this time a year so we are not quite sure how it's going to turn out. We figure the fish are going to be a little deeper so drop shooting is going to be the ticket. Hopefully they will be getting their last feed bag on before the snow flies. [

Any advise??

We will be at Woodhead Oct 1-6th. Brownlee was down about 26', I see it's down 33' now. I do believe the fishing will still be good or better. We've always done good in Oct.
This last trip, other people did do better then us with getting full limits daily. If you want crappie, you can catch hundreds and hundreds in a short time, but they were on the small side for me. It didn't stop 3/4's of the people up there from fishing and cleaning them though. Oxbow has bigger fish, but I believe they have different reg's on limits.
Keep an eye out for the black Lund with Team Quill

Thanks EZOP. We will look you up. We are staying at the Gateway from the 3rd through the 6th. Our plan is to fish Oxbow most of the time for the bigger fish. We will be in a Deep V blue Skeeter with a 200 Four Stroke on it. If you see us just yell. We are always interested in talking fishing, like most serious fisherman are. We also though about fishing Hell's Canyon this time around to see what it is like.
We are prepared to fish anyway we can to be productive. My question would be to someone who fishes up there in the fall, what color seems to work the best this time of year? Any input would greatly be appreciated.

We caught a bunch that were spitting up crawdads and little crappie.
Oh, and I do believe I read somewhere that there is a bass tourney going on that weekend.

A bass tournament! That's not what I wanted to hear. Any idea on who it is and where they are fishing?

Searchers Bass Club is having a tournament that weekend at Woodhead. I know some of the members will be out of town and will not fish it. I would say probably only about 10 boats. I usually fish it but my partner (my wife) can't make it so I'm not sure if I will either unless I can find another partner. Anyone Interested??[fishin]
We only had 10 boats at our last tournament. As big as Brownlee is 10 boats won't hurt anyone's fishing plans. [

Thanks for the info Bassnbob. We will be on either Hell's Canyon or Oxbow so we should be out of your way. Hope you find a partner!!!

You're welcome and thanks. I hope I find someone too.[

Keep an eye out for us Bob, we may even have a partner for you. I''ll be with several groups myself. B C D sections always work for us when camping.

I'm going to pass on this tournament. I went out to my camper, started it up and the brake pedal went to the floor. Looks like a master cylinder problem. I won't be able to have it fixed in time.
I appreciate the offer and would like to meet you. I won't be up at Woodhead now until next spring so maybe then.
Thanks again,
Bob

EZOP,
Did you ever make it up to Brownlee? If so how as the fishing?
[signature]
Yes we did, fishing was the same as always or slightly better. Biggest was 17 inches, with many, many undersized. The best part was the weather turned out pretty good. A little rain here and there, but every time I went out it was nice. I had battery issues with my trolling motor, so after about an hour of fishing they where dead. But I was lucky because there was no wind during the day, so it didn't effect me to much.
I'll head back up Monday and bring the trailer home from Gateway storage for the winter. I'm done for the rest of the year with the boat, so next spring it gets new batteries. I'll take the trailer back up in April next year and repeat the Brownlee experience all over again. I think we stayed there a little over 30 days total this year.
Other then that, it was very pieceful up there. Cool enough to have a nice camp fire and was lucky enough to have several groups of people that I've met through out the years that visit it regulary like us, including a buddy from work. The camp ground was pretty empty, with mostly chukar hunters.

From your report it sounds like we should have headed north. When you have to travel six hours the last thing you want to do is sit in the rain for two or three days like we did this spring up there.
I look forward to your reports next year. We will plan two or three trips beginning in April, the last of May, and sometime in the fall. That is a great area to fish!!!!!
