Full Version: Seat swivel on 'Toon

So I figured if I could put a swivel on my 'toon seat, and boost it an inch or so, it'd be better for fishing and getting at stuff in the "trunk".

Pic: (you can see the aluminum puck spacers and the swivel I think if you look carefully)

With that and the 1-1/2" boost from the throw cushion, hardly half a calf is in the water.

Anyway, it's nice to be able to swivel around and the casting is nice being up high, but kicking with the fins SUCKS! Every power stroke is wasted in butt-wiggle.

If I decided to keep a swivel at all, I'm getting one of these:

This way I can lock in the position, but unlock and spin if I feel like it.

FYI...

I know several other people that have attempted what you are only to go back to the original. Why do you feel the need to sit up so high? As you stated, the flippers just don't work, plus wind resistance.
As far as the swivel seat, personally I don't get that one either but as I said you are not the first to get one, in fact the Orvis Boat came with one, but it did have the lock. People complained it wiggled as you put it, not only in kicking, but rowing also.
But, a pontoon can turn on a dime, I see a fish out the corner of my eye, I quickly turn and cast to it.
Just curious as to why the changes.

The main reason for the swivel was so I could easily access the back deck if I packed a bunch of stuff on it. Also helps setting the anchor(s) etc. Sitting high for sight fishing and casting ease.

As far as wind, the majority of the wind force is on the pontoons themselves so just a bit more of me poking up isn't going to make too much a difference I think.

Finally, my seat side caddy doesn't fit well unless I elevate the seat a bit! Smile

We'll see if I keep it or not...

One thing my Brother in-law ended up doing (he was one to try the swivel also) was had a friend make his frame wider. He made bars to connect between the frame, making it 6" wider.
He really liked the way it tracked, and he loved the room it gave him. He made plexiglass shelves on the sides for more storage.

I know the toon diameter is the main wind resistance, but BODIES do make a difference. Try sitting next to a standing Pontoon, with the other person STANDING and you can see the difference.
I have the H3 which while sits higher than most tubes, still sits lower than my Echo. The Echo has the same 12" diameter tubes (and is 4' long versus the H3 6'), but it has a small frame and you do sit higher, it is effect slightly more, but due to it's size, easy to maneuver.
