Arrived at scofield res Friday evening.
Started fishing the South bank across from Mountainview State CG & Boatramp
Mrs. Im4Trout hits the first rainbow 17 inch 2lb on worm and mallow, She then brings in a small 14 inch tiger. a few bites here and there but nothing brought in
Saturday 7:30am - 8:15pm
The Mrs caught 6 more rainbows. I was trying everything but nothing took except a few crawdads on my worm.
Sunday 7:30am - 3:00pm
I finally caught a rainbow and a tiger, Using Worm and Mallow. Mrs. caught another rainbow all were between 12 - 15 inches. Nothing to tell Mom about but good eating none the less. I tried a few berkley shiners with trout oil on them, produced 0 results. I figured I could catch a few minnows with the trap but nothing showed up in them besides a crawdad.
All in all it was a slow weekend to fish. Figured about 1 fish for 2 hours of fishing.

On another note:
My parents hit Henry's Res. on Saturday, they went to our old fishing hole, Mom caught 4.4 lber and My uncle caught the fish of the day a 6.3 lber. they said fish were hitting big time.
And Mom caught a dolly Varden 2lber. Haven't seen any of them in there for quite a while.
I had called them Friday at Spanish Fork on our way to Scofield, when they told me they were going Saturday. I came real close to turning around and head North. But I hate crowded Boats.

Anyway the Mrs and I had fun and got to talk alot. and just be with each other. Sometimes you forget how important that is in a marriage.

By the way, Sunday morning around 9:30 somebody was loading his boat and his wife was backing the RV and trailer down to the water he was yelling and cussing her up one side and down the other real loud using all the explicitives nobody likes to hear, because the trailer was to crooked or not far enough in the water on and on for about a 20 minutes or more. This kind of person is not a fisherman needs to stay home. Because he sure does not need to come out and do thisd and make everyone around the lake who could hear this (quite a few), embarrased for his wife and made you want to go smack this guy. Some people are just really Sad.

I will post some pics here on an edit this evening when I get home.

Sounds like a good trip, except for the guy chewing out his wife[unimpressed]. Always good to have quality time with the wife[Wink].
That is the first I have heard of Dolly Varden in Henry's lake, do they plant them there? WH2

They did a long time ago. I was raised in IF and Henry's has always been my choice fishery. They don't, well they did not plant them for a long time, and we haven't caught any for a very long time. My Mother said they were just talking about it on the boat and not half an hour later she caught one. Anyway Mom told me to come up on the 11th and they will take us. So I will make sure I have the camera along and keep everyone informed. There are so many people going up there now, it's not like the old days I remember. Now there are boats everywhere and people are taking over the good old holes we used to fish. I'm afraid for my grandkids that Henry's is getting too popular even with a two fish limit.

Oh ya I forgot to post my photos last night sorry, I'll get them tonight.

Actually, what you are catching is Eastern Brook trout. Technically, Idaho doesn't have Dolly Varden. We do have Bull Trout, but never in Henry's. I know, that's what we all called them for years, until the F and G corrected everyone! So tell me, what general area is your "favorite hole"? Glad your parents did so well. We were up there as well. Nice looking pictures. I ask the question about the DV in Henry's lake on the Idaho board. They said the same thing as [#000000]Kodiak1[/#000000]. I'm by far no expert on Henry's but I have never heard of DV in the sourthern part of Idaho so I thought I would ask. Here is a link to that thread in case you are interested.

Ok OK, I hear you and read the Idaho board. But...
since I was a kid we caught them there they maybe bullhead trout and not Dolly Varden. But they sure did loook like them. I hope to have someone in our party get one on the line next weekend so I can get some really good photos with the Kodak. I'm sorry I called them Dolly's if they are not. Sounds to me like a few people say they are not.

This web site from Boise had this photo:
[inline "Bull Trout.bmp"]

So some fishermen in Idaho, my family included, are calling Bull Trout, Dolly Vardin, which they are not. I stand corrected. and I apologize to those I have offended.
But still, even if they are not Dollys, they sure are pretty.

Edit: Which brings me to this question:
Why is the web sight saying the alias for Bull Trout is Dolly Vardin?

[cool]Common names mean nothing. Different species are known by different common names in different parts of the country. The key is the scientific name.

Bull Trout are also called Dolly Varden...and vice versa. And there are subspecies to further confuse the issue.

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about it.

[#588000]I also used to live in Idaho (central) and a lot of the folks I knew called some of the trout Dolly Vardens - usually it was a misidentification of a female Brookie or a Bull. [/#588000]
[#588000][/#588000]
[#588000]Bulls and Dolly Vardens are closely related, and along with Brookies, they are chars - sometimes they can all look kind of similar. [/#588000]
[#588000][/#588000]
[#588000]At the time, I didn't know the difference and also called them what everyone else did - that was until I fished with a biologist and was shown the differences and told that the Dolly Varden was not native to the area.[/#588000]

[#588000]BTW - Great post and photos.[/#588000]

No need to apologize, my comments were not meant to criticize but hopefully we all are learning something new. I wasn't sure until you brought it up but I had never heard of them other than Alaska and Canada, with the bull trout being in the Northern part of the state.
