Full Version: My New Rod Holder for the Tube

Thought I'd share with you my latest tubing acquisition.

I picked up this new rod holder for less than $20, including S & H, on eBay. It's made by White River Fly Shop, and it's great. It fastens securely to my tube with little effort, and it adjusts to nearly any conceivable and handy position. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it the whole 10er.

Here's a pic I took of it before I placed it on my tube. (Sorry that a better pic would have included it on my tube.) Notice the red padding inside the black hard plastic. A very nice feature that keeps your rod from knocking around and protects the exterior as you insert and withdraw it while fishing. Also, the red, three-corner knob and inserting pedestal allows it to be adjusted in a moment to position your rod as you'd like.

(I don't own any stock in this company. Not trying to sell you one. I am just pleased with it and think it's cool. Another reason why I like it is it sells for about half the price of Scotty's rod holder. TubeDude's PVC models are probably the cheapest made of all, however, and probably function better than anything on the market. [Wink])

BassPro sells it for $20, but you'll need to pay an extra $5 or so to have it shipped.

Here's what BassPro has to say about it:

A great addition to any float tube or pontoon boat, the White River Fly Shop Rod Holder is designed to fit any float tube or pontoon boat up to 59" in girth. Constructed from high-quality, durable materials, the Rod Holder holds virtually any type of fishing rod. Our Rod Holder is a must have for any float tube or pontoon angler that wants to take an extra rod, troll or just have free hands to tie on another fly or lure. Imported.

Here's BassPro's pic of it:

I have seen those in some shops and on at least one tube.. I think they are awesome.. I may be wrong here but I think that triangular knob is a change from the older model.. (course could be wrong there as well.. :-) )

Yeah, the two pics are slightly different. So, can you troll straight off the back of the tube or does it have to sweep to the side?

I STILL don't have any "trolling" type rod holders on either my tube or 'toon... I am such a failure... Sad

I have the one in the bottom picture, but the thing I didn't care for is it was a set tilt. The one in the top picture is awesome, cured the problem.
As far as the coating, I fly fish so just the cork sits in the holder, therefore the coating is not required, the cork can take a little banging around LOL

But, the other reason I went with SCOTTY, is that you have several MOUNTING attachments. I mounted the flush mount on my Pontoon and the rail mounts on my Pontube, but I still have the tube mount for the H3.

Price is FANTASTIC on these, but do they all adjust tilt wise?

With my version, a person may adjust the rod from side to side, 360 degrees, and up or down at ridiculous angles. Very versatile.

One more thing, on both of the adjustments there are what I will call "teeth" and grooves molded in the plastic, so that once adjustments are made the adjusted position sits in a locked fashion. I mention this because I would assume if the holder were designed to function as smooth hard surface on smooth hard surface, there may be some slipping, regardless of how tightly the knob was tightened.

Again, it's a pretty solidly made, functional holder for the price.

sounds awesome to me.. with that room for adjustment I would thing Shig could set it to troll behind him as needed..

[cool][#0000ff]In the olden days...stone tubes, etc...there were very few D rings on the round tubes and having a lash-down rod holder was about the only option. However, with today's D-ring "rich" models, you do not need to rely on strapping and cinching. But that is a nifty model. The big downside of such an addon is that when or if you lose enough air pressure in your bladder, the holder will rotate around on the craft and you can lose rods. Trust me. It has happened.[/#0000ff]

Although that hasn't happened to me, I guess that is another reason I like Scotty. It has two straps and a bigger base, plus a strap to hold the rod in.

With multi rods in the PVC rack, if the same scenario does the PVC rack tilt out or in?

this looks pretty cool. I need to see if I can find one since my rod holder I made was so full of fail.

What was the seller's name on there? I did a search and couldn't find it.

I don't know if there is a name for it other than "rod holder," but I know the manufacturer is White River Fly Shop.

BassPro sells them, though I don't know if it's my exact model. The one they sell is made by White River Fly Shop, however.

Here is the link from BassPro selling the rod holder very similar to mine. You may want to call BassPro and ask if the model they're selling includes the ability to adjust height and includes the soft rubber inserts.
