Hello everyone:
I've been MIA for nearly a year. My last trip to Mead was during Thanksgiving of 07, so I am looking forward to my 4 day houseboat trip to Mead next week. We are, of course, going out of Temple Bar. Our group of 8 is leaving from Irvine, CA around 10 p.m. on October 8th. We should arrive at Temple Bar by 3:00 a.m. (10/9). I don't recall what the water depth was last November, but I'm assuming that the water level has dropped significantly since then.
Has anyone recently fished out of Temple Bar? I typically fish off of Channel Island in Gregg's Basin, but frankly, I'm not sure if Channel Island is still an island. It may very well be a peninsula now -- just like Haruipai Island.
Also, how has the weather been lately? I've checked weather.com on a daily basis, and it appears that there has been little to no wind for the past couple weeks -- with highs in the 90s and lows in the mid-70s. Is this accurate?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Paul

Hello,
Do not know about the water level up there but I have been told that Lake Powell is at 68% full pool and Lake Mead is at 48% full pool and they were going to let water out and equalize the Lakes . But they did not say when.
As far as the temps this weekend a big storm is comming to Las Vegas and going to blow out the summer heat. The high for Saturday the 4th is 80 and the High for Sunday is 76 Day time temps. It will fall down into the into the mid 60's at night and highs in the 80's for the day next week.

Fishing near Temple Bar has been an off-and-on proposition for the past few weeks, but it turned on at just the right time for one angler who hauled in a 45-inch 42-pound striped bass that was weighed and measured at Temple Bar Marina late last week. The fish smacked a Rattle Trap the angler cast into a boil. Largemouth fishermen have had to work for their fish in that same area
Good Luck[

Yeah, water is down since last year. Couple feet below the official Lake Mead NRA expanded pages lists. Water level has been stable all month of September. Shallow launch at Temple Bar, but doable if you are willing to et wet launching. Channel Island 3 weeks ago had about 4ft. of water over the shallow side. Lots of smallmouth bass in the area. Probably in full Fall Pattern now. Didn't see any stripers on that trip, but we got run out by a line of squalls.

Hey MIA, good to hear from you and glad to know that you will be returning to Temple Bar for another fishing trip! I only fished Mead a couple times during September.[frown] I assume fall fishing is going strong with a combination of top water and jigging. I'm hitting the water soon and going for live bait first. I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks for the info. You wouldn't happen to know what part of Temple Basin he was in, would you? If you happen to go to Mead either Monday or Tuesday, I would appreciate an "accurate" weather report. Weather.com is pretty good, but it's not always accurate. Thanks.
Best regards,
Paul

Hey Tom, thanks for the info on Channel Island. I typically anchor a houseboat on the east side of Channel Island (on the sandy beach shore). Wow, so the depth is only 4 feet between Channel Island and the mainland? It was about 15 feet last year. I'm hoping there's still a nice drop from Channel Island's sandy beach shore. I always do well in that spot with night fishing for stripers. I'll definitely have to watch out for the squalls as well, since there isn't a lot of shelter out there.
Thanks again, Tom. Hope you're doing well.
Best regards,
Paul
