Conditions are rare as we are right under the jet stream and temperatures fluctuate radically as the Pacific air mass battles the Arctic for dominance during the season but typically have a few weeks of safe ice during January on smaller, sun sheltered lakes. High point in my winters, them fish are hungry.
Lyman lake in Okanagan county was my spot while living there and now that I have moved to south Stevens county, will be in serious need here soon of my Ice Fix [cool] .
Looking for a good location and possible new friends that know the experience or want to try it. So far around here, I just get these looks like, "You don't actually do that, do you ?? " [shocked]

welcome to the club.
I am in the palm of the mittin state, where too we suffer from fluxes from elninos and alberta clippers its eather worm or cold as two hocky sticks put together...[angelic]
wish I could toss a pond or two at ya, but ya know what a good idea might be is, to call a bait shop in a higher elivation a bit more easterly from your location. The further east and higher you go the more ice you will find.[
]
good luck and let us know how you mannage.... we love to hear about ice fishing even if ya dont catch a fish.[cool]

Wow davetclown, that was downright eloquent, my hats off and bowing
. I sure will, camera takes nice pics and vids. too.
And it's official, had some white in the mix just an hour ago, be around four to six weeks now and will be under the great white blanket for the season, offering a serenity up here no man can put a price on. Very special indeed. Kinda nice resolve that there is absolutely nothing I can do about a few of my pursuits on the mountain and take a nice break from those too.
My Okanagan spot is only a 3 or so hour drive and have friends closer than my own family up there to visit for a few days too so will invariably make that trip as well as what I find closer in. All the "Potholes" up there are well stocked and managed also so smiling fishermen abound.
Thinking I'm going to go flying around with Google Earth and simply look at the way lakes are laying etc. too, then go look them up in Johnny Law book. And will certainly be heeding your sage advice to locate some higher elevation shops, (usually tiny general stores in this neck with a few lures and a worm cooler, but truly great folks) and thank you for that, BFS
Found this pic on the first try LMAOROF : see anyone not laughing at this one, we need to see about getting aid.
