I caught this fish at Scofield. It was really nice and put up a really good fight. The rainbows seem to be healthier and bigger there than the last few years. I am going to be going again Thursday or Friday. I will post my results. .

Nice fish. I tried your bobber minnow tech and it worked great for the tigers. I have been catching the Bows on worms. But I havent caught anything that big. were you trolling?

I am kind of embarrassed, but I caught that guy right next to the dock at Madsen Bay. I went up to my cabin at the lake for some work and didn't bring my boat so I decided to fish by the dock for awhile and slayed them. Tigers, Cutts, cut-bows and rainbows. Since that time I haven't fished anywhere on the lake, but one place (that wasn't nearly as good) as right next to the Madsen Bay boat ramp.
Who would think that a guy with a boat would fish from shore? Anyway, I am glad you are onto the Tigers. That floating minnow works well and they sure are fun to catch!

That's a nice fish. But, fish like that in Scofield are now the rarity, unfortunately. I used to take limits of Bows like the one in your picture every trip I went up there. This year only a handful. I don't know if it's chubs ruining that lake, or over harvest. I'm kind of thinking the latter personally. Too many fishermen, not nearly enough fish. It's a shame. That used to be the best fishery in the state. Now? Not so much.
Sorry you had a bad day at Scofield. Fishing has been great this fall from several people including myself. I went to the same area I went last year (last year I had to search for them) and slayed the bows and cutts. Not so much luck on the tigers but I know they are in there.

Perhaps there is a little less fish than there used to be, and it is certainly true that there is a ton of fishermen these days, but personally I think Scofield is at a high point right now. The fish populations are sizeable and healthy. The tiger trout are an added benefit that are proving to be offsetting the chubs. Still one of the best bets for trout.

Not a bad trip. More of a bad year. Don't get me wrong. I've fished that lake better than 10 times since I've been back in the state, and everytime I've caught more than 20 fish. Not exactly bad quantity fishing. But, the size isn't up to par. Out of more than 200 fish, for only 2 to be over 20"? That isn't the way Scofield used to be. 1 in 10 would be over 20" even 3 years ago. The fish just can't reach that size they could before, because they're being caught out.
There are still some big fish in there. Caught some Tigers myself that went 24" earlier this year just after ice off. But the way people keep them, with no slots and an 8 fish limit, those Tigers will stay in the average 13-14" size range, same as 95% of the Rainies and Cutties. That lake is in bad need of a slot, and hopefully it'll get it.
It sounds like you got your wish. The new 2009 regs put a slot in place for cutts and tigers and cut the creel limit from 8 to 4.
