So I went up to the cabin at Scofield yesterday to work on my book on Seller Financing that I am writing. I stop at the lake to look around to see if the minnows are in and check things out. No minnows, but it looks like a perfect day. There is only 1 boat at the North ramp.
I had planned to go to the cabin, write for a few hours and then wet a hook for a break before my next writing session. However, I somehow talk myself into fishing first [
] and then writing later.
However, I think I'll multi-task and set up for rainbows at the same time. I usually only fish for Tiger Trout when the minnows are in since the big Tigers follow those schools of minnows for food.
I get my laptop going and then the fishing starts. I catch fish after fish after fish on my worm and marshmellow. I caught over 15 fish paying less attention to the pole than my book. I don't even know how long some of them were on before I noticed.
Most of them were in the 13-14 inch range, but I did catch a pretty fat 18'' cutbow. I had to make a couple of conference calls so I headed up to the cabin. I did end up editing almost a third of my book.
After a few more hours of work at the cabin I head back down to the lake to try for some more fish. I get there and still NO MINNOWS. Since I didn't bring any I fished again for rainbows.
About 5 minutes after I get there another guy shows up and we may be the only 2 guys on the lake. He asks how things are going and I told him that I just got there. He said he heard that the Tigers were hot at Scofield. I asked him where he heard it and he said on BIG FISH TACKLE. We both figured out that he found out from my posts!
He had brought some minnows so while I was fishing for rainbows I showed him how I rigged up and where I fished for the Tigers and he started catching them using my method in my hole! I sat there and didn't know how to feel.
He ("FinessFish") caught some beautiful Tigers with great color. The biggest one looked about 19" and 2.5 pounds and had all the color you look for in a Tiger. He was nice enough to let me fish with some of his minnows. We had a blast highlighted by a fish pulling his pole in the water and him fishing the pole back out 20 minutes later. What a blast.
The fishing at Scofield has been great this year. The fish are healthy. They are usually biting and the pressure from anglers has been less than I've seen in the last few years.
