So I'm going to try to hook my father-in-law and brother-in-law into some good ol Berry slimers. I really love Strawberry Reservoir and have gone there many times in my float tube. I went about a month ago however with my Dad. We rented the small aluminum boat from the Strawberry Marina and we got skunked! We threw the standard baits and lures at the cutts but none wanted to come and play. I don't know if it could have been a factor but a rainstorm rolled onto the lake. It still always amazes me how fast storms show up there. Since we didn't really catch anything except for a couple of slot cutts we went to the Hatchery where all of the Kokanee were spawning. It was really cool to see all of those fish.
So, to get back to the point sorry! My father-in-law and brother-in-law have moved to Midway from Seattle. My brother-in-law is kind of a fisherman but my father-in-law has only gone a handful of times in his life. I know hard to believe right? So I wanted to give them a nice welcoming and hook them into a lot of fish. We were planning on going early Saturday morning to Strawberry Marina and renting another aluminum since we don't have a boat and that beats walking up and down the shore.
I have been reading from some of the other great posts here that the standard pointers, white tube jigs, and chubs are working well up there. Also, I've seen some post to look for boils. I've never seen a boil before. I would probably wet my pants if I saw one and jump in the water to catch something with my hands. JK I haven't usually tipped my white tube jigs with chub but would you guys strongly recommend this technique? I also have noticed a lot of fellow BFTers saying to go shallow to find the fish. Also, I know Strawberry is huge and when I went with my Dad recently we went out from the Strawberry Marina up north along the banks. I've noticed a lot of guys posting here have gone out of Renegade and headed southeast to have success.
Any advice would be mighty helpful since I don't want to go up there with these first-time berryers, is that a word? and get skunked...knock on wood! Thanks, and if you want go ahead and PM me if there is a secret you don't want the masses to know hahah
