The lake has apparently turned over now. The fish are spread throughout the water column and difficult to target. I did see one school on the finder but no consistent fishing like in weeks past when it was on fire near the surface. haven't found any schools by the dam this year, most have been uplake of the powerlines.

About the only consistent fish I found this year were the bass near the dam. Kokes I never did dial them in. I kept hearing that they were around "the narrows". But in all honesty, just about the whole res. is "narrow, so which part are they referring to? I haven't tried it in recent weeks but I'm debating a quick outting in the next day or two.

Most of the time this year I have fished near the juncntion with meadow creek on the main reservoir. As the fall progressed I had been moving down reservoir, lately I had been two bends up from the powerlines, a few weeks ago they were up on the surface and we were boating a dozen or more fish in couple of hours. I am still marking more fish on the finder in this area but they are all over the map now as far as depths go. I found one school the other day near the floating dock in that area. I have been fishin in the evenings maybe the morngins are better.

Good luck if you make it up there.
I also did good near the dam for bass....I'm looking forward to ice fishing....hope it's as good as last season!

Any body been catching any walleye up there. Last time I was up there in July I talked to a guy on the boat ramp and he said he had been fishing a secret cove and catching dozens of walleye????

I had heard that the fish and game found out about them this summer and they thought they had gotten them all. Two weeks later though someone caught 4 more! The only information I know is what was posted in the paper. Apparently they thought most of them were around Deer Creek but they are trying to wipe them out of Ririe in case they make it into the snake and potentially screw up the cutthroat balance. But any specific information on where some can be caught, a friend and I would be mighty interested.

Sorry for being off topic, but for those looking for a job with the Government there is a opening at Ririe for a General Maintenance Mechanic. (jack of all trades kind of thing)
It's a good way to get started with the Gov. and to work near your favorite fishing holes.
I believe after 12 months the pay goes to $27 something.
Just posting this incase someone is looking.

If the eyes are there the F&G doesn't have the resources to wipe them out. As for the fihery eyes are the best thing as they will keep the smaller perch and suckers in check

In a couple of years we should see some good numbers and the bea beer batered fish this side of padle fish[fishin]

They have the resources, at least they think so. Looking back at the past and the way F@G works, I would most likely bet they do something extreme like Island Park Res where they kill the entire reservoir off and start over. They will use the excuse about the Walleye getting to the Snake to back their decision up. The we will have around 6-10 years for things to get back to normal. It is like the Hybrids in the South Fork. To me the Hybrids are just a natural evolution. Only the strongest survive. They have over come and adapted. F@G's way of solving this so called problem? Kill them all, and while we are at it, lets kill all the Rainbow also. Just another way F@G goes to the extreme. They have been better lately than in the past, but I still don't trust them. Last time I was up there on the SF, all I could catch was Cut Throat. Fun to catch, but not very good eating when you have to throw them all back.

I think the Fish and Game is doing an awesome thing by trying to kill all the rainbows.

Guys they are not trying to keep the Yellowstone Cutthroat because it is a super sportfish. Obviously it does not fight like other species. They are trying to save it and keep it healthy as a species. The Yellowstone Cutthroat is on the "THREATENED" species list and could be put on the endangered species list if things don't turn for the better. If that happens, you wouldn't even be able to fish for them. The YCT historically used to occupy 17,397 miles of habitat, ranging from the waters of the Snake River drainage (Columbia River basin) upstream from Shoshone Falls, Idaho, to the Yellowstone River drainage (Missouri River basin), including the Tongue River in eastern Montana. Now the YCT occupies bout 1,300 stream miles, or around 17% of historically occupied habitat. That is SAD. I don't care if the fish is an inferior fighter, something needs to be done. There are THOUSANDS of places in Idaho to catch Rainbows, Browns, Brooks, Hybrids, etc.... But how many areas are there to catch pure strain YCT? Not very many at all.

F and G people have degrees and went to school for a long time to know how to handle things. I think we should trust what they do and think over our own.

Just my two cents

That was well put Everet. I totally agree. If you are looking for fish to take home and eat, there are plenty of other places to go and other species to catch.
As far as Ririe goes, I seriously doubt that theywill kill off the whole res. I know the biologists personally and they do a great job, and care about the fish and the fishermen.
I know that they plan on tagging some eyes, to figure out spawning areas and then take it from there. I've also heard that they will open it up to harvest of walleyes by anglers with no limit (but I'd make sure on that one first, don't take my word for it).

Well said Everett. I have no great love for the cut throat as fighting species, but I certainly do not want them removed by invasive species. We have plenty of other places where that has already happened.

The main reason that nobody wants the rainbows or cutbows to take over the SF is if that were to happen the Feds would step in and control the fishery and maybe even shut it down if the cuthroat population got low enough.

The fish and game are good people who have our best interests in mind for the most part. They are protecting not only the cutthroat but the local economy and even our fishing rights should the Feds step in.
